Fascinating study in @eLife: @BeckmanFnd analyzed how blinding the Beckman Young Investigator review process (at LOI stage) affected success rates based on applicant’s institutional prestige & saw major effects — but saw no effect on applicant’s gender: elifesciences.org/articles/9…

Well worth a listen if you were ever a pupil at @cbsomagh
This month our Alumni section focuses on Joe Mulryan, a pupil of the CBS from 1950-55 and a staff member from 1959-1998. Joe gives an insight into a very different school era. youtube.com/watch?v=nQgZLwwL… Can you spot Joe in the photograph or tag someone who may be able to?

Except @SpringerNature subscription journals don't allow authors to post manuscripts/preprints that have been revised in response to reviewer comments to be posted on preprint servers: springernature.com/gp/open-r…
I read it like this: xitter.cf/Richvn/status/16458162… So the realpolitik strategy is: send Vn to journal, have it accepted. Quickly post on biorxiv. Then mark that 'as accepted'.

WHO AM I MONDAY I was born in Bristol in 1902. I died in Florida in 1984. I went to primary school with Archibald Leach/Cary Grant. I had an intense hatred of poetry and dancing. It was joked that I spoke at a rate of “one word an hour”. I won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1933.
