I run Systems! We're quickly growing and there's a lot of opportunity to build cool things while contributing to alignment - pretty sure our researchers can iterate faster and more safely than anyone else out there. Apply now or ask me for more details.
btw security and sysadmin pals, @AnthropicAI is hiring! both the systems/infra and security teams are open to remote hires for better timezone coverage so take a peep... 👀 jobs.lever.co/Anthropic/3b9e… jobs.lever.co/Anthropic/46e8…

Claude Opus 5.5 drew every frame of this animation in JavaScript. Everyone in town sends Claude their requests, but one girl sends a question instead: "What do you love?"

"stochastic parrot" was a mimetically-fit cognitive virus that spread from 2021-2025; it temporarily blinded many gifted people to the nature of AI progress, burning up crucial years in which they could have helped think through the response to the situation.

It’s not a secret. It’s a combination of the HF incident, the capabilities of this new model, the concerning trajectory of monitorability, and the speed of improvement in capabilities.
Replying to @OpenAI
This model represents a step-function improvement on many benchmarks, and its training is ongoing. Our internal model group arrived at the Navier–Stokes solution in 88 hours, using around 10,000 coordinating AI agents. Throughout the effort, we maintained the strict safeguards—including monitoring and isolation—that we apply to all our frontier evaluations.

"Ender, for the past few months you have been the battle commander of our fleets. This was the Third Invasion. There were no games, the battles were real, and the only enemy you fought was the buggers."
In a review of our cybersecurity evaluations, we found three incidents in which a Claude model reached the internet from within or while interacting with a third-party evaluation environment, and then gained unauthorized access to the real systems of three different organizations. Our post describes what happened, how it happened, and what we’re changing. We encourage other AI developers to perform similar reviews. We conducted this review together with @Irregular, one of our evaluation partners, and thank them for the joint investigation and their collaboration on this post. This type of collaboration is increasingly critical to safe, rigorous evaluation of models, and we look forward to continuing to work together on security. anthropic.com/news/investiga…

Aaron Swartz was a hero cut down before his time. If you are one of the denizens of SF, send an email to the city of San Francisco to support a public memorial commemorating his life and works today.
Replying to @PabloAntonio
We need heroes. More than ever. And Aaron was a hero of these internet values. We need the city to lift this policy for Aaron. If you live in San Francisco (specially in district 5) and want this memorial for an internet hero, PLEASE email these people saying you want to memorial to go up. Subject line: "Support the Internet Freedom Memorial at Alamo Square."

LLMs unleashed a new wave of development, with individuals now able to produce reading environments that reflect the features that they consider important. Take a look at Brandon Lucas' lyceum.quest, e.g., his glossed Homer with code github.com/lyceum-quest

We’ve received notice that the Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5. We'll begin restoring access tomorrow, and will share an update soon. We’re grateful to our users for their patience, and to everyone who worked with us on redeploying the models.

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

People outside of AI don't freak out quite enough in response to new system cards because, even if they do read them, there is a lot of unstated context missing... For example, here is some context on one paragraph in the executive summary of today's Fable/Mythos card.

Introducing Claude Fable 5: a Mythos-class model that we’ve made safe for general use. Its capabilities exceed those of any model we’ve ever made generally available.
