Hand translating the Gospel of Luke verse by verse, using lyceum.quest to check myself against. Made a few mistakes, but improving!

We got a rather outraged comment on Perseus MVP/Beta Perseus. I think the source for that was the impression that we would not add old features or provide support for new-- that this was a final product. We would have liked to wait til we had more but P4 has been struggling 1/

-- esp. things like the Word Study Tool (which has been essentially inoperable). We are not taking P4 down yet but we are rolling out features as we can. We need to do a better job communicating and will work on what we say on the site this week.

marvellous as treebanks are, they do not track language specific paradigms. Claude helped me fix issues in Morpheus and now I have been begun integrating paradigms with treebanks. Data issues abound but I love the pedagogy: here are common noun 1/

and here we can examine how those forms are used. NB: my student Su Wu produced initial Chinese augmented treebanks for Sophocles and I am not filtering these out

I have been posting about the importance of giving credit. I attach screen shots from a recent post to show what I try to do -- I am sure I could do more. 1/

You can't give too much credit to the people who share their work. In my view, there is no downside to giving credit. NOTHING makes my day more than seeing people publicly build on work that we have done at Perseus and I love when Perseus make the work of others more visible.

The Scaife viewer build on work by @PonteIneptique. It would be easy to import the texts into gitlab.inria.fr/almanach/cll… from @ThesLingGraecae. We have chosen not to do so but there is no copyright at play. Here are the biggest 20 not yet in Perseus.

if anyone is interested in the state of Open Greek as of last spring, you can read about it here. VLMs and LLMs have reached a point where we could add quite a bit more Greek (and Latin) in surprisingly good TEI XML. The raw OCR has gotten good enough for large scale analysis.1/

There is a lot more than 80 m words of open Greek available. The question is how best to structure it. Eustathius' Homer Commentaries, Stobaeus, Hesychius would be worth some focused work (at least by us). I am not sure about others.

It is a nice site but they are using texts without credit. We know that they are using texts from Perseus because we see errors that we have fixed. That leaves about 35-40 million words of Greek texts with no know source -- that much new open Greek would be huge if freely shared.
An amazing group of people have started an online Ancient Greek text repository (like TLG) for FREE. They currently have about 8000 texts online. thegreeklibrary.pages.lisn.u…

We will have more to say about newer work on Perseus but the Scaife viewer now has dictionary integration and a few commentaries. If not swarmed, it can be a nice reading environment

thanks to Tom Elliott, Charles Pletcher installed Anubis and Scaife is (for now at least) back up. We will need to do more but this gets us moving at least for now!

while we continue to do battle with bot swarms (and hope to agreed on a more advanced strategy with Tufts), this paper appeared. Useful as the Perseus DL can be as a website, our bigger contribution is probably providing data for many other projects. This only begins the story.

Now Scaife is down. Ugh. it is difficult for an application at Tufts to use bot challenges. We are pushing to do something. This is our traffic as of Google Analytics.
