I know several people who are clearly autistic (undiagnosed but obvious) but do pretty fine socially and it’s achieved by being perceived as quirky as opposed to aloof. You gotta quirk it up. Lean into your eccentric personality instead of shutting off. It will work
It's crazy how autists have a passive -20% debuff in all social situations even when they haven't said a word

Novavax officially on the CVS vaccine scheduler. 4 years ago this would have been unheard of and we almost lost Novavax early on. But relentless advocacy by so many people for vaccine equity and better protection got us here despite 2 administrations who destroyed public health

I really wish I learned earlier that apparently if your eyes aren't CENTERED in the frame, they aren't getting your prescription as intended. In otherwords, if your glasses are oversized and you're looking through the top of them, you're not looking through the main focal point.
Anytime I’ve complained about the price of my glasses everyone rushed to tell me order online and…

Not dissing on getting online frames at all (that's what I'm wearing right now in fact) but if they don't fit properly, use that return policy to find a better fit!

‘don’t have pets you can’t afford’ is a generally cool sentiment but very outdated since we need to chat about the private equity elephant in the room buying up all of the vets and making tooth extractions $1500

I’ve said this before but if you’re chronically ill DO NOT QUIT YOUR JOB. Make sure you get long term disability insurance, and if you can pay the extra to get 80-100% of your pay do it. Know your company’s FMLA and disability policies
There is a level of financial fear that comes with chronic illness that most healthy people never have to think about. You’re paying more money to survive while your body is simultaneously making it harder to earn money. Because eventually it’s not just symptoms you have to worry about. Every flare up has consequences attached to it. Missed work. Reduced income. Medical bills. Recovery time. Medications and copays. People talk about chronic illness like it only affects health, but for a lot of people it slowly affects financial stability, independence, and your entire sense of security too.

I've finally moved away from my abuser, after 3 years of having to stay with her for survival. I have a place of my own again. I'm happy to have made it, but the relief is... slow. It's taking a while for my body to realize and accept that things are safer now.

For the first time in years, today I was allowed to start a NORMAL dishwasher load. Without overcrowding the dishwasher, without washing every single dish by hand first. With ORDINARY, inexpensive, not-greenwashed dishwasher detergent. And without having to ask for permission.

There are SO many normal things I don't have to be afraid of being caught doing anymore. I want to make a list of them for future me, I think.

People used to talk about climate change as though at some point it’d get bad enough that we couldn’t deny it and had to address it. Covid made it clear that the bigger a problem is, the more tempting it is to believe it’s not real, and the more investment people have in denial.

my hot take— if someone sees it as trauma dumping, you don’t want them in your life. the right people will understand this is just reality and will want to be there for you
how does one talk about their detrimental + severe disability which affects their whole life without seeming like they're trauma dumping? its not a trauma dump, its my everyday reality

Revenge bedtime procrastination with ADHD is a special kind of hell. I am physically exhausted, but I refuse to go to sleep because 2 AM is the only time the universe stops making demands. I am actively destroying my tomorrow just to experience three hours of unsupervised, demand-free existence today

Simultaneously, these pejoratives are misused to describe actual despicable individuals and actions. Bigotry is not "stupidity", it is (wilful) ignorance, selfishness and evidence of being influenced by propaganda. Apoliticalness is not "lazy" it is supine, complacent, complicit.

Alright. Thread time! "Lazy" does not exist. "Stupid" does not exist. Both terms are used to refer to such a wide spectrum of both disabilities and unrelated, wilful and often sordid attitudes and behaviours.
said it before and i will say it again; the only way to even get close to avoiding being ableist is to entirely let go of the idea of laziness and similar concepts. you can not sit around trying to decide which people are the "bad ones" who did not take care of themselves today

I really think more people should be willing to go to other people's houses and help them with chores and cleaning as a form of mutual aid

I was curious so I did a quick search. According to reddit, "the reason he has a mask on is because he can't get sick before the upcoming shows." Some artists understand our new reality, and others are frequently cancelling concerts.
