True of the entire Scottish Establishment. That unholy toxic alliance of 'artists', politicians and civil servants that passes for our national spokespeople who couldnt tell the truth if you paid them and they are dragging us all into the gutter
Replying to @tombennett71
The Scottish establishment’s inability to look truth in the face is a very big explanatory mechanism of why it is frozen in failure mode.

The absolute brass neck of John Swinney asking voters not to look at “what has gone before”. I wouldn't want people looking at my past either if my legacy as Finance Secretary and Deputy First Minister was a £5 billion fiscal black hole and the Ferguson Marine scandal. He is desperately trying to sell a “bright future” because his 19-year present is completely indefensible. In his column, he literally repackages the 2019 bus franchising powers the SNP have sat on for seven years as a shiny new 2026 policy😂. But the most hilarious self-own is the fact that he is posting this on X. The SNP membership literally just voted to formally boycott the platform and demand a UK-wide ban, and their own First Minister is ignoring them because he desperately needs the engagement to sell his newspaper columns.
I am not interested in nostalgia, or just thinking about what has gone before. The reason I choose independence is to build a better Scotland for the next generation. My column in the @Daily_Record today. 👇

This photo encapsulates contemporary Scotland. A symbolic icon providing navel gazing opportunity for middle age progressives paid for by public money overshadowed by signage evidencing the decline of our cities topped off with a joke that died with the dinosaurs.

Gillian Mackay attempting to rewrite history by claiming she voted No in 2014 to protect her “place in Europe” is plain historical revisionism. In 2014, the President of the European Commission explicitly confirmed that an independent Scotland would immediately fall out of the EU and have to reapply from scratch. A Yes vote was always a vote to leave the EU. Furthermore, her complaint that Scotland was “taken out of the EU against our will” completely ignores that current SNP and Green economic policy—running a structural £5 billion deficit while unofficially using the British Pound without an independent central bank—would permanently disqualify an independent Scotland from meeting the EU's strict Copenhagen Criteria today. Finally, admitting that Green and SNP supporters “are not enough to secure a sustained pro-independence majority” is a staggering understatement. The combined nationalist Westminster voting intention has plummeted to roughly 33%. Bragging about having the “largest pro-independence majority” based on Holyrood seat mechanics while nearly two-thirds of the electorate actively backs pro-Union parties is not building the “broadest possible movement”; it is desperately clinging to an isolated echo chamber.

Phenomenal tweet. October 7th should be remembered for what happened to 1,200 innocents with no “yeah buts” as we’ve seen from so many on here. So let a brave Muslim say what many have been screaming for years. Two highlights before you read the whole thing: “So let me say this clearly. Hamas and the IRGC are not merely enemies of Islam. That would be too small a charge, as if their crime were only against us. They are enemies of God. And we Muslims have been too quiet. Some of us were afraid. Some told ourselves it was not our business. Some, God forgive them, felt something other than horror that morning and never confessed it. Silence was the soil this poison grew in. I will not add to it.” Well said in the extreme.
A Statement of Conscience on October 7 I will not start by saying ‘as a Muslim’ or ‘as an imam’, but as a human being. On October 7, over 1,200 innocent people were killed in a single day. Families were shot in their homes. Young people out dancing were hunted across open fields. Over 250 people, including children and the elderly, were dragged into Gaza as hostages. I think of a mother hiding in a safe room with her baby’s mouth covered. I think of a father listening as the line went quiet. I think of families who waited month after month for someone to come home, only to receive a coffin. I didn’t need my faith to recognize the evil of what happened. My heart told me first. But I’m a Muslim and an imam, and I owe the world one honest sentence: what was done that day was a crime against God. God teaches that whoever kills one innocent soul, it is as if he had killed all humanity. This day has an author: Yahya Sinwar. He planned it, ordered it, and knew what would follow. Every death of that day and war he started rests on him and Hamas leaders who sat in tunnels and foreign hotels and called slaughter a victory. It rests on every Palestinian leader who cheered, excused, handed out sweets, or said nothing. They chose this. They own it. But Sinwar did not invent himself. He was the fruit of a tree planted almost a century ago by the Muslim Brotherhood. Hamas named itself in its founding charter as the Brotherhood’s branch in Palestine. The Brotherhood’s poison is slow. It arrives through study circles, youth camps, charity boxes, and kind words to lonely young men. Drop by drop, it teaches him that his religion is a political party, his neighbour is his enemy, the Jew is the cause of his sorrow, and God is pleased by rage. By the time the gun arrives, the soul is already taken. I have seen this poison in mosques where sermons became rallies and young men could recite slogans but not sit still for a verse on mercy. Every people that let the Brotherhood in has paid in blood and ruined generations. It has never built anything it did not first set on fire. Behind Hamas stands another hand: the IRGC. It was the IRGC’s money, weapons, and training that turned a hateful idea into an army. One calls itself Sunni and the other Shia, and they may curse each other’s creeds, but they are united in what they worship. It is not God. It is power. The same IRGC that armed the killers of October 7 shoots Iranian girls for showing their hair, hangs young men for asking to be free, and has left graves from Tehran to Damascus to Beirut. They speak in God’s name. So did Pharaoh speak in the name of heaven. So let me say this clearly. Hamas and the IRGC are not merely enemies of Islam. That would be too small a charge, as if their crime were only against us. They are enemies of God. God is the Giver of life, yet they deal in death. God calls Himself the Most Merciful, yet they have made cruelty a sacrament. God honoured the children of Adam, yet they look at a child and see a target or a shield. To murder what God created and sign His name to it is the oldest blasphemy. And we Muslims have been too quiet. Some of us were afraid. Some told ourselves it was not our business. Some, God forgive them, felt something other than horror that morning and never confessed it. Silence was the soil this poison grew in. I will not add to it. So on this anniversary, let us say plainly what our scripture already says. The Jews are not our enemies. They are our cousins in Abraham, and their dead were created by the same God who created us. Today belongs to them: the murdered, the hostages, and families who still set a place at the table. To them I say: I am sorry for what was done to you by men who used the words of my prayers. You’re not alone in your grief or remembrance. The enemies of God are those who murder in His name. We know their names. It is time we said them from our own pulpits, in our own voices, before they speak for us again. Imam Tawhidi

As a geometry teacher, I’m so here for the Great Triangle Debate of 2026. It reminds me of the “define a chair” challenge of years past. 😂 Yes, many people might call this a triangle. But suppose there were a powerful movement, backed by lawfare, legislation, and social pressure, to force everyone, everywhere (mathematicians and engineers included) to call it one. It would upend entire disciplines, making teaching math, developing new mathematics, constructing bridges, etc., much harder and more confusing. In order to restore sanity, folks would have to push back and become extremely pedantic about the definition of a triangle. Even if mathematicians never cared much about how the general public understood the definition in the before times, now they would very much care about what the public called a triangle.
It's a shape that resembles a triangle while lacking the defining features of a triangle (angles). In some circumstances, people will refer to it in colloquial speech as a "triangle," but not in geometry or engineering, where the functioning of the system of reasoning or practice requires linguistic precision. A man who looks like a woman will in some cases be called what he is trying to look like (either because he succeeds in deceiving others to believe he is what he is pretending to be or because people are moved to play along out of personal compassion or social compliance) but in all cases concerning legal and institutional recognition, where precision is required (as in the systems of geometry and engineering) the material and immutable fact of his sex is the relevant fact.

The Vice-Principal of St Andrews has literally just had to publish an article explaining that the Scottish Government dictates "precisely how many they can admit every year". If the university goes "even one student beyond our cap, they are fined". Trying to frame St Andrews as anti-Scottish when it is the SNP’s own funding model that restricts domestic student numbers is entirely dishonest.
Some students arrive at St Andrews University with classist views – but they tend not to leave with them, vice-principal of communications Niall Scott writes✍️

good time to plug my favourite recent yougov study which found there's functionally NO difference between the left-right partisanship of straight men and straight women, and that the gender gap is almost entirely powered by the differential between lgbt women and lgbt men 💀
Women being generally more progressive than men but then hating bisexual men for some reason is quite bizarre

Leader of the Scottish Lib Dems tells an interviewer the party has "separate legal advice" about EHRC guidance. Turns out this actually means party activists have offered him their views. The brazen dishonesty on display here really is quite something.
I asked the party what separate legal advice had been seen. The response was "Alex was reflecting on conversations he had had with party activists, rather than this being advice the party itself had commissioned."

Still can't get over a party leader in essence pretending to have seen independent legal advice when he was actually speaking to activists. The mendacity is shameful. I can't imagine any former leader of the Scottish lib dems acting like this.

The Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs claims she is "unaware" of public bodies owning crofting land. Scottish Ministers literally own 95,000 hectares containing 10% of all crofts in Scotland. A staggering level of incompetence and utter ignorance of rural issues from a government that claims to represent all of Scotland.
Shut it down. End this grifting goldmine for idiots. xitter.cf/Torcuil/status/2101748…

Nationalists love complaining about "Westminster debt," but look at the actual breakdown. Scotland has 8% of the UK population but generated over 15% of the accumulated deficit. England has 84% of the population but only 57% of the deficit. This is the Union dividend in one image.

Giggle v Tickle has been referred to as a “landmark” case by the ABC. Thanks for the acknowledgement, but… When I submitted an op-ed to the ABC about the importance of the case back in June, I was told, and I quote, “the issues we keep coming up against have to do with pervasive inaccuracies in your presentation of both the SDA (what it allows, what it forbids, what exemptions - eg, for single sex spaces - it allows for, and how pervasive were the changes in 2013) and the Giggle v Tickle judgement; and overstatement about the extent to which changes to the SDA present a threat/danger to women and single-sex spaces.” My piece was 100% accurate, but written from the perspective of actual women. So the ABC deemed it to be inaccurate and an “overstatement”. But when it comes to “trans”, it’s a landmark. Remember how I say that every claim gender ideology/ideologues make, the exact opposite is true? Here is example number 74848284776.

"Does any of it make sense? No. And it’s not supposed to. It’s supposed to make you feel like you’re losing your mind. That’s a part of the overall goal" 💯
Basically, some men aren’t women, but other men can be women. Like if they’re really, really dangerous, then ok he’s not a woman. But those other sex offenders and domestic abusers in women’s prisons? Yeah, somehow they’re women. Does any of it make sense? No. And it’s not supposed to. It’s supposed to make you feel like you’re losing your mind. That’s a part of the overall goal. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want this POS anywhere near a woman’s prison. The Western Australian supreme court made the right decision. But at what point is it in breach of federal discrimination law? Is this man going to use the Giggle v Tickle legal precedent to eventually achieve his demand? Will the sex discrimination commissioner intervene on his side? (All of her existing GvT legal submissions will work in his favor anyway) Is there a point where all the people - judges, politicians, human rights commissioners, activists - who are currently patting themselves on the back for a job well done in GvT realize that we were right all along? Because I knew this was inevitable, yet had to listen for years to the AHRC tell the federal courts that a man only had to have the thought of being a woman & that’s enough for him to be included as a woman in federal discrimination legislation & anyone who doesn’t validate his thought is open to punishment. If they don’t think this man will use that against them, they’re even stupider than we currently think they are (and I think they’re irredeemably stupid). A lot of people say that losing in GvT was inevitable because of the law, but that simply isn’t true. The law can be interpreted correctly. The WA Supreme Court has managed it. It was a choice to interpret the SDA against women & reality. Potentially an order. The moment you allow men to be women in law, the absolute worst men in society will use that to their advantage, and they are. Never, ever, say we didn’t warn you.

This is superb. The lesson begins with the usual catechism: J.K. Rowling has “bigoted opinions”. Then someone makes the unforgivable mistake of reading what she actually wrote. Suddenly, certainty requires definitions. Slogans require evidence. “Everyone knows” requires rather more than everyone saying it. Critical thinking really is murder on a fashionable consensus.

The SNP abstained on 2 votes that would have seen Theresa May forced by WM to negotiate for a customs union. They did as they always do; they played childish political games, a bunch of silly buggers.
