Reminds me of when as a teenager I did my work experience with swans and the swanherd took these photos

Within days of starting secondary school I was being verbally abused by a (16 year old!) girl on my bus for not being manly enough. It's easy to laugh at now but this stuff wears you down when you're an easily impressionable boy. I became very bitter as a teenager.
Boys seem to nearly universally - usually in their early teenage years - experience something that breaks their hearts in such a specific way as to emotionally cauterize them. So many of them go from being sweet little guys to internally numbed, externally nonchalant performers.

The end of this process of "becoming a man" was a traumatic event when I was 16, as so often happens. Since then I have been trying to recover and become a better person.

Yes a lot of life is passing the time and it's alright to just mess around and enjoy yourself. However, when you play some of these online games, you are playing something that has been crafted to addict you. A book feeds your soul; an FPS played for hours a day degrades it.
the more i think about it the more video games as a concept the more they horrify me. just a machine for totalizing disassociation which consumes days or years and leaves you with nothing

this morning I’m walking back from class. a group of teenage boys are behind me. “ask him ask him”. snickering one of these delinquents whines “excuse me excuse me, who did you lose your virginity to?” the speed of the “your mum” that left my mouth will be studied for generations

I'll always remember you, friendly Mediterranean man who sold me baklava every week
It’s important for your development as a person to have a solid 6 months where the only person who cares if you live or die is the gas station guy

I rescued a beetle from being trampled to death during football. Missed an opportunity to attack but saved a life. Of course everyone else was annoyed but one has to keep one's compassion in these times.

You just won a 2-week, all-expenses-paid vacation to Africa. But there’s a catch: you have to stay within one region the whole time. What are you picking?

I was being provocative on purpose I'll admit - there are some good brutalist buildings. But I simply do not recognise this conception of "actually a grey concrete slab is beautiful to live in." I don't see it. Karl Marx Hof is an example of good, simple modernist architecture;

It feels warm, welcoming, and secure, but the colourful exterior doesn't invite being covered in soot in five days. I'm sure as a famous building it gets more maintenance than many, but regardless I think this is better.

Good question. Maybe someone should add a book to the Bible about whether illness and misfortune is necessarily a divine judgement of one's sin.

One of my earliest memories of panto is of a production of Robin Hood where both Robin Hood and Maid Marian were played by women who I think were getting a little too much into it
imagine trying to explain a pantomime to someone who's never seen one like yeah the audience yells at the actors and if you don't they'll probably call you out also it's 70% innuendos and political jokes but it's kid friendly plus there's songs and also a drag queen is there

Account that constantly posts "aesthetic" photos of themselves reading broadsheets, journals, and academic books, but never says a word about the contents of any of them

The Barbican Estate is brutalism at its most beautiful, where monumental concrete meets nature.

Historians of the future will be bemused that not only did Europe put its faith in the capacity of an actively hostile state, it also failed to develop any alternative systems?

Doing anything for a local community today involves sending out 100 gemitus Britannorum a month, except to London instead of Rome. My theory is that all of the wholesome "community initiative" springing up these days is people desperately responding to state withdrawal.
