Fell down a rabbit hole in the soda aisle today (don't judge, it's Monday). What's in a Coke? Five eras. Buckle up.
THE 1886 COKE 🌿
Atlanta pharmacist John Pemberton, from the recipe in his notebook that This American Life dug up: sugar, fluid extract of coca (yes, THAT coca), caffeine, citric acid, lime juice, vanilla, caramel, plus the secret "7X" flavor, which is alcohol with orange, lemon, nutmeg, coriander, neroli and cinnamon oils. Topped off with soda water at the fountain.
Fifteen ingredients, including cocaine AND booze, sold as a "brain tonic." Coke got most of the cocaine out by 1903 and all of it by 1929. Their archivist says the notebook may not be the version they sold, allegedly. 😏
THE 1972 COKE 🥤
Carbonated water, sugar, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavorings, caffeine.
Six things. Real sugar. Little glass bottle your grandpa took back for the deposit.
Then corn happened. Around 1980, Coke started blending in high-fructose corn syrup, and by 1984 sugar was gone. A 1981 law Reagan signed put quotas on imported sugar, US sugar went to roughly double the world price, and corn syrup looked like a bargain. So yes, Washington made your Coke worse. Even under Reagan, and I love Reagan.
Second problem nobody talks about. Bottlers get real sugar as liquid syrup, and liquid sugar is a buffet. Yeast loves it, and food scientists say high-sugar, high-acid soda is "particularly prone to yeast spoilage." Corn syrup proved "more stable than liquid sugar" and easier to sanitize. Bottlers didn't choose corn because of taste, babe.
THE 2025 COKE
Carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, caffeine.
One swap. 140 calories and 39 grams of sugar per can. Then Trump posts that Coke agreed to "REAL Cane Sugar," and their CFO says, "There is only a certain amount of cane sugar available in the United States." So we reinvented 1972 and put it on allocation like a Birkin bag.
THE 2026 COKE: THE RETURN 🎬
Carbonated water, cane sugar, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, caffeine.
Same six as 1972! Scaling up through 2026 in little 8-ounce glass bottles. Mexican Coke snobs can stop smuggling it home in their purses.
Where's the cane from? Back in the day: Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Hawaii. Not so much anymore. Hawaii's last mill closed in 2016. Texas lost its only sugar mill in 2024 because Mexico won't send the water it owes us under a 1944 treaty. Now 55 to 60% of American sugar comes from beets.
Ever smelled a sugar beet plant? Don't. It smells like rotting women's underwear. Folks in Carrollton, Michigan protested one last year. "I've never smelled anything so bad," said one neighbor. Margaret, I believe you.
Did they fix the stuff-growing-in-the-sugar problem? Mexico has bottled cane sugar Coke for decades with no science projects, so I'm guessing yes.
THE 2027 COKE
Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Prebiotic, testing in NY, NJ and PA starting at the end of this month:
Carbonated water, soluble corn fiber, caramel color, phosphoric acid, aspartame, potassium benzoate, natural flavors, potassium citrate, acesulfame potassium, caffeine.
Read the second ingredient again. SOLUBLE CORN FIBER.
Forty years and one presidential post later, corn got out of the Coke, and corn walks right back in the side door wearing a gut health lanyard. Corn is the ex who shows up to your wedding with a plus one.
The scorecard:
In 1886: 15 ingredients. Cocaine.
In 1972: 6 ingredients. Sugar.
In 2025: 6 ingredients. Corn.
In 2026: 6 ingredients. Sugar again, if you can find it.
In 2027: 10 ingredients. Corn, but make it fiber.
Progress!! 😂
Coke is still life. I'll take the 1972 one. The 1886 one would get me fired from the PTA. 🦋

LAUREN UNDERWOOD IS STANDING.
She made a graphic. Black background, white letters: "I stand with Ilhan." Very brave.
Let's review what she's standing with.
Federal agents searched Ilhan's D.C. home on October 12. With a warrant. Signed by a judge.
Her birth year changed after she got elected. 1981 became 1982. Most of us can't go back a year. Ilhan just files an update.
Her husband's businesses were worth up to $30 million. Then they were worth $18,000. "Accounting error." I've made accounting errors too. Mine were $40.
And now James Comer says her old winery sold investors barrels that showed up empty.
Empty. Barrels.
That's not a winery. That's a metaphor.
This is the same congresswoman who gave a masked speech to an empty House chamber. Six feet from nobody. Protecting the chairs.
Illinois has the taxes, the crime, and a U-Haul on every highway. Her urgent priority is a winery with no wine.
No charges have been filed, and Ilhan says it's all political. Sure. So were the empty barrels.
I stand with the side of law and order.

The age old question of could men handle carrying a baby or handling childbirth. Most of us believe they can’t. This wife wanted her hubby to feel what it was like to carry twins for just a moment. I think it’s funny but also informative to show what it feels like and to see how hard it is to do normal things. And it’s fun to laugh at.

I don't know if you realize what just happened.
Elon Musk is completely bypassing the State.
For 100 years, we've been told the problem is capital. That it must be captured, taxed, redistributed. With an army of intermediaries standing between those who create wealth and the people: ministries, agencies, commissions, bureaucrats.
Musk is doing the opposite. He's taking his capital and giving it directly to the people. One SpaceX share to every kid in America. Not a handout. Not a subsidy. A piece of the machine that's taking humanity to Mars.
And he says it himself: this is the first of many.
Mises understood this back in 1944: the bureaucrat creates nothing. He administers what others created, following rules that have no connection to the value produced. The day value flows directly from the one who creates it to the one who receives it, the bureaucrat has no function left.
That's what's being born right now. A new liberal world order, where the very concept of the State will make less and less sense.
The world we're entering is a world of abundance. AI, robots, energy, space. And that abundance won't come through the State, for one simple reason: we have a century of proof that it doesn't work.
Redistribution was version 1.0. Direct distribution of capital is 2.0.
While France is still debating how to tax builders even more, America is handing stock to its kids.
Pick your side.

It's great that the BBC are doing a documentary to expose what an evil bigot JK Rowling is, but I do worry that they might mess it up and accidentally reveal that her 'extreme' views are the same views held by every sane adult ever born.

Bernie Sanders showed up at the University of Florida to tell Floridians how bad things are..
Florida has no state income tax, a $117.6 BILLION budget, about $18 billion in reserves, and AAA credit ratings from every major agency, per the governor's office. Its m*rder rate is 3.9 per 100,000, compared with California's 4.5 and Illinois' 5.8. Its vioIent crime rate is 267 per 100,000, versus California's 486 and New York's 380.
Florida went for Trump by 13.1 POINTS in 2024, after Trump won it by about 3 in 2020. Republicans now have 1.5 MILLION more active registered voters than Democrats, and Miami-Dade, which hadn't gone red since 1988, flipped.
Also, nothing says "No Kings" like supporting Bernie Sanders, who's been in politics for 45 YEARS.

🚨TOO LITTLE TO LATE?… People are finally catching on to what a lot of us have been screaming for WEEKS, they’re FINALLY admitting this is all about driving up Diesel prices to hurt Trump and Republicans chances of winning the midterms. 👈
Zelensky is blowing up oil refineries because if Democrats are in control of the house, THEY WILL CONTROL THE PURSE and will spend your tax dollars to continue funding his endless war, while enriching Zelensky AND THEMSELVES. They can’t get their USAID MONEY any longer so this is their best avenue to cash in at the moment.
👉Remember when Dems used to say how bad Putin was for interfering in our elections? 💥IT IS EXACTLY WHAT ZELENSKY IS DOING RIGHT NOW and he is taking his orders from the Left in America and Europe.
If they win in November, the first thing they’ll do CUT ZELENSKY A BLANK CHECK using YOUR TAX DOLLARS for helping get them back in power.

While we argue with each other, this is what the permanent class looks like.
One launched wars and expanded the surveillance state. The other ran a democrat State Department.
Both protected the same deep state while the public was told the real fight was between them.

The world needs more Elons!
This is why the left can’t stand Elon.
He’s consistently helping humanity through direct private action instead of waiting for politicians or new government programs.
He just announced that next year he will give one of his own SpaceX shares to every kid in America, calling it the first of many such gifts. With roughly 72 million children under 18 in the country and shares recently trading around $146, the total value comes to about $10.5 billion.

🚨BREAKING: Los Angeles County redirected $5 million from a wildfire housing fund to rent checks for households “impacted” by ICE — and they don’t check immigration status.
The program can pay up to $15,000 per rental unit.
County paperwork created “Category 3”: tenants facing hardship from “federal actions targeting immigrant communities.” Supervisors then moved wildfire and Affordable Housing Trust money into that bucket.
The original pot was sold as help for Eaton and Palisades fire tenants and landlords. Half of a $10 million fire housing allocation went the other way. More trust-fund dollars followed unless fire victims still had unpaid needs.
Meanwhile, thousands of fire families are still waiting to go home.

You've probably seen the video. A young Frenchwoman in Paris, in tears, begging looters to stop. "Why are you doing this? That's not what we stand for."
Some accounts are mocking her. "She voted for it."
I won't. Because what you see on her face is not stupidity. It's a disease that has infected the entire West, and it has a name: suicidal empathy.
The term comes from Gad Saad, an evolutionary behavioral scientist at Concordia University in Montreal. A man who fled the Lebanese civil war as a child, and who knows what it looks like when a society falls apart. His new book, Suicidal Empathy: Dying to Be Kind, is the follow-up to The Parasitic Mind. Here is the thesis, and why it concerns every one of us.
Empathy is one of the best things about us. It evolved for a reason: to care for our children, our kin, our tribe. It was calibrated for a world where the people you felt for were the people around you, and where empathy always came paired with its counterweight: the instinct to protect your own and to recognize a threat.
Suicidal empathy is what happens when that mechanism misfires. When it fires at the wrong targets, in the wrong amounts, with no brake. When we feel more for the criminal than for his victim. More for the stranger who breaks the rules than for the citizen who follows them. More for how compassionate we look than for what our compassion actually produces.
Where does it come from? Four layers.
First, biology. Empathy is a spotlight, as the psychologist Paul Bloom put it. It lights up the one face in front of you and leaves everything else in the dark. The crying migrant on the boat is visible. The thousands of future victims of a broken system are statistics. A spotlight is a terrible tool for running a country.
Second, our own civilization. The West is the civilization that put the victim at the center of its morality. Christianity taught us to care for the stranger, the poor, the weak. It was one of the greatest moral revolutions in history. But cut off from its other half, justice, responsibility, the duty to protect your own, it turns into something else.
Third, ideology. In The Parasitic Mind, Saad described idea pathogens, ideas that hijack our reasoning. Suicidal empathy is the emotional counterpart: an ideology that hijacks our compassion. It sorts the world into oppressors and victims, then demands unlimited empathy for whoever ranks as the victim, whatever they do.
Fourth, status. In the age of social media, empathy has become a display. Posting "refugees welcome" costs nothing and earns applause. The bill goes to someone else: the working class, the suburbs, the women walking home at night.
The results are everywhere. Criminals treated as victims of society. Sexual assaults by migrants met with lenient sentences. Self-defense branded as aggression. Borders treated as cruelty. Saad's conclusion is simple: a society dies when it would rather display infinite tolerance than use its survival instinct.
Now the part I'll add myself, and that few people dare to say.
On average, women score higher than men on measures of empathy. It's one of the most consistent findings in psychology, across cultures, and it makes perfect evolutionary sense: for most of human history, the survival of children depended on it. It's a strength.
But it means an ideology that weaponizes empathy will hit women harder. And the data shows it: in country after country, young women have moved sharply to the left of young men, especially on immigration.
This is where men have a responsibility.
Not to mock. Not to lecture. Not to say "she deserved it." Empathy has always needed a counterweight, and that counterweight was the protective instinct: the one that draws lines, says no, and stands between the threat and the people it loves.
Men abandoned that role. They were told it was toxic, and many believed it. So they stayed silent at the dinner table, at work, with their partners, sisters, daughters and friends.
That has to end. Men have to have this conversation, honestly and with respect: compassion that cannot say no is not compassion. It's surrender. And the first to pay for it are women.
Many women already understand this better than anyone. Some of the bravest voices in this fight are women, precisely because they are the first to feel the danger in the street.
A civilization rests on a balance: compassion and strength, openness and borders, mercy and justice. When one side swallows the other, the foundations crack. What we are watching in Europe is what happens when empathy has no counterweight left.
Look at that young woman again. She isn't the enemy. She's what this ideology made of a generation that was told kindness would be enough.
Our job is to make sure she's the last generation that has to learn it this way.
She voted for it.
She welcomed them.
Faced with the encore, she begs them to stop. In her heart she knows they will not.
Everything she believed. That they were French like her, fighting for the same cause. That the ones who warned her were full of hate. That she would be safe.
It all falls apart in this moment. She is terrified of what comes next. In her heart she knows.
Only remigration can save her.

🚨 WHILE FRANCE BURNS, POLAND IS PERFECTLY CALM.
Polish MEP Dominik Tarczynski walked through Krakaw late at night to show Europe what safe looks like. There were no riots, no burning buildings, and no police lines.
"Look how safe we are. Churches are safe. Because we did not let them in. Zero means zero."
Poland refused the EU's migrant relocation quotas. The EU's top court ruled against it, and Poland still didn't budge.
Tarczynski summed it up: "'Be like Poland' means be brave."
This is a choice. France chose open borders, and Poland chose its own people. Look at the results.
America, be like Poland.
