@docskop

Love my ob/gyn job, caring for women and children entering the world! Also advocating for my patients with science and statistics for life at @lozierinstitute.

As an OB-GYN currently practicing in Texas, the quality medical care I provide did not change after Texas enacted its pro-life law. Nor has the law prevented me from caring for my patients in emergencies. Don't be fooled by misinformation.

If abortion advocates say abortion drugs are "safe" and that the removal of the in-person dispensing requirement was based on science, then why was it necessary to examine the FDA's 2021 review of mifepristone safety? CLI Director of Policy Research and Lozier Library Zack Sluzala, Ph.D., explains. More: lozierinstitute.org/peer-rev… #mifepristone #abortiondrugs #FDA

Claims that abortion drugs are "safe" are unsubstantiated. The @FDA 2021 review of mifepristone safeguards failed to consider real-world conditions in which abortion drugs are used, reflected potential bias towards pro-abortion groups, and relied on insufficient complications reporting. The decision to remove the in-person dispensing requirement for mifepristone was based on flawed evidence, incomplete data, and potentially biased input. More: lozierinstitute.org/peer-rev… #mifepristone #abortiondrugs #FDA

Abortion activists claim mifepristone is “safer than Tylenol,” and that the FDA’s approval and relaxed oversight of mifepristone are “grounded in science.” But our new peer-reviewed paper exposes that @FDA's review of mifepristone safeguards did not sufficiently show that removal of the in-person dispensing requirement is safe, and may have even been biased towards pro-abortion groups. NEW: A peer-reviewed paper from CLI examines the evidence behind @FDA 2021 safety review of the abortion drug mifepristone, which resulted in the removal of the in-person dispensing requirement. Researchers found that the review was based on limited studies and incomplete data, raising serious questions about whether the FDA adequately evaluated the drug’s real-world risks. Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of speaking at the Montana Life Summit on the risks and benefits of abortion vs. childbirth. In a culture where false narratives and fearmongering from abortion advocates abound, women deserve the truth about the beauty of pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood.

Last week @docskop gave a great presentation on the mental health harms of abortion at the 2026 Catholic Medical Association's National Conference. Research shows that women who have abortions have a 138% greater risk of mental health issues than women who have live births. More: lozierinstitute.org/fact-she… #mentalhealth #abortion

False. No pro-life law prevents care for women experiencing a pregnancy emergency. Missouri's Amendment 3 acknowledges this specifically.

A prenatal diagnosis does not determine the value of a child's life. When Gabriel's genetic parents learned he had a treatable congenital heart condition, they demanded that McKenna, the surrogate mother carrying him, have an abortion. I'm deeply grateful that McKenna refused and safely delivered her baby here in Texas, where he is now receiving some of the best life-affirming care in the country.

There is no non-abortion medical condition for which mifepristone is the only or preferred treatment option. Abortion advocates often claim that increased safeguards on mifepristone will endanger women who may need the drug for non-abortion uses, such as miscarriage care or Cushing’s syndrome treatment. But the truth is that mifepristone is only one of several different treatment options for these conditions. In many cases, physicians have alternative treatments that are already widely used in clinical practice. We must acknowledge that mifepristone’s primary utilization in the U.S. is to electively end unborn life, increasingly through unsupervised use. The double standard of mifepristone prescription practices is putting pro-abortion ideology ahead of women’s health and safety. Mifepristone has been proposed as a treatment for conditions beyond abortion, including miscarriage, fibroids, weight loss, and depression. The evidence supporting many of these uses, however, remains limited. Even when mifepristone is used for a non-abortion condition, the standard of care is for a physician to evaluate the patient, confirm the diagnosis, determine whether the medication is appropriate, and provide follow-up care throughout the treatment process. Yet current FDA regulations allow for mifepristone to be prescribed for abortion remotely and delivered through the mail with very little medical oversight. Why would a drug require physician supervision for non-abortion uses, but not when it is used to end a life? We must acknowledge that mifepristone’s primary utilization in the U.S. is to electively end unborn life, increasingly through unsupervised use. Since Dobbs, Americans have been told that pro-life laws prevent women from receiving care in pregnancy emergencies. That is false. Every pro-life law permits a doctor to intervene when a mother’s life is at risk. My updated fact sheet explains the medical realities of pregnancy emergencies and humane treatment options that aim for the survival of both mother and child. The abortion industry can only claim that mifepristone is "safe and effective" by using very limited data and turning a blind eye to any research that indicates the contrary. As an OB-GYN practicing in Texas, I've seen firsthand in the ER how abortion drugs are causing serious harm. Women deserve the truth. #abortiondrugs #womenshealth

The FDA's removal of the in-person dispensing requirement has opened the door for widespread, unregulated use of abortion drugs. Contrary to what the abortion industry claims, self-managed abortions with no medical oversight are very dangerous. #abortiondrugs #womenshealth

In addition to the many documented harms of mifepristone-death of unborn children, injured women, coerced abortions, and violated state laws-we can now add poisoning our water supplies.
"These [abortion] drugs are poisoning our water supply, and I think we should all be concerned about that..." @LozierInstitute's Dr. Ingrid Skop explains how environmental law could be the key to saving unborn lives. Guest host: @JodyHiceFRCA

A recent JAMA Network Open study claims that Texas mothers were more likely to report "fair or poor mental health" after the Texas heartbeat law took effect compared to mothers in states without abortion restrictions, suggesting the law was to blame. But the study ignored key factors like the impacts on mental health of the Covid-19 pandemic, inflation, and increased unemployment rates. True science is thorough and unbiased. The limitations of this study are far too many to draw any firm conclusions linking pro-life laws with worsening maternal mental health outcomes. I can't say this enough: These tragic stories DON'T have to happen. The law is clear: Miscarriage care is unaffected by pro-life protections. Legal and medical authorities have clarified this repeatedly. Any doctors and hospitals who are still failing to provide appropriate care in these heartbreaking circumstances should be held accountable.
New: Lynn Callaway, who says she was sent home from two Austin-area emergency rooms despite an infection, has lodged a federal complaint against the hospitals, accusing them of mishandling her miscarriage. bit.ly/4eyethT
