5. Almost the entire employee base, including non-technical folks, uses Linux laptops. I use Zorin (Linux). Kailash's push to avoid all enterprise deals saved us yesterday.
Cyber risk is one of the biggest financial risks. I heard of a single scam of Rs 20,000 crores that affected lakhs of Indians. A precaution you can take to significantly reduce the odds of being a victim of cyber fraud is to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) everywhere. 1/12

Entering into my personal periodic funemployment mode after a couple of years with LeadIQ. Will spend the next couple of months rehydrating myself on backlogs in reading and writing, enjoying the holiday season with my family and some more fun stuff. Will try to look for a new gig (remote from India) at the turn of the year - meanwhile if anyone has any suitable leads please feel free to send my way (Scala, FP, cats, cats-effect, zio). Please RT ..

Programming is entirely about abstraction, automation, and reuse. So writing an application should be proportional to what's unique about that application. Clearly, something has gone very wrong.

At Mastodon, we present a vision of social media that cannot be bought and owned by any billionaire. Your ability to communicate online should not be at the whims of a single commercial company!

Look, if everyone is worried about students cheating on essays for AI, instructors can just cheat right back. I asked OpenAI to give me an essay question & make a rubric for grading. I had GPT-3 actually write the essay. I then had the OpenAI grade the essay & give comments. ✅

We should never have called it “language modelling” all those years ago; it was (and still is) “word sequence modelling”. Confusion always occurs when you label an algorithm with the name of the problem you’re trying to solve, rather than with what it actually does. @GaryMarcus

Make Marathi the global language of this planet. No other language slaps as hard. Name one language which has a word like maakadtondya.

None of what fasterthanli.me/articles/lie… describes (which matches my experience) really sounds much like compiler speed to me. It sounds like years of life lost to preventable errors.

I’m sorry, man. It’s not you, or your reply. It’s just a very personal frustration watching an important practitioner-oriented/identified paradigm shift co-opted in such parasitic ways. It’s not evolution if it skips to entirely different lanes.

Somewhat satisfying to see another example of a concept (such as “devops”) co-opted, re-framed, (hijacked?) by those with different agendas than its originators. This isn’t a subtweet. What’s now commonly understood as “devops” bears no resemblance to what it originally meant.
Your quarterly reminder that Maslow never proposed a pyramid and that the first visual of it was not in the psychology world, but in a management book from a business professor Keith Davis in 1957 and it looked like this.
