what if the outline view was a fully bidirectional alternate editor?

SDF and liquid glass enthusiasts! I bring you some exciting original research I did into shape-preserving smooth blending while working on Liquid DOM. Read on to learn why it matters, why it's hard, and how I managed to solve it. All the code is open.

We’re doing a user study to find out how adding always-on live values alongside code effects writing and debugging experiences for functional programming. See reply for sign-up details

given that everyone is doing token-by-token and/or line-by-line partial completion acceptance now, i'm surprised i haven't seen any that just recapitulate selection mechanics (i.e. shift-left/right for token, shift-up/down for line). we have incremental acceptance at home!

Impressive. Some fresh ideas for structure editing.
new tylr featuring inline obligations. press tab to jump to the next obligation, either a hole or a token-completion, or to accept the current completion.

new tylr feels amazing. what if structure editing were error correction with holes all along?

Lots of fun old related infoviz literature here (keywords: focus+context, distortion-oriented presentation). But as far as gratuitous animation, I bet you'd enjoy ianhenderson.org/hypernav.ht… (best viewed on phone!)

we're looking for a couple more people for this
I'm seeking participants for a user study on a new code editor that completes your program text with syntactic obligations, which are virtual tokens that stand in for missing text. Details in thread. RTs appreciated 🙏

Great work by the @UsePenrose team building Bloom: a lightweight way to make interactive diagrams: penrose.cs.cmu.edu/blog/bloo… All coordinates are automatically figured out by the Penrose layout engine, and diagram specifications can be re-used for different content (like HTML/CSS).

Our work on debugging with GitHub Copilot Chat won Best Paper Award at VL/HCC! We introduce ROBIN, an “investigate & respond” agentic LLM workflow. As we approach a balance b/w automation vs. collaboration, we observe 3.5x greater bug fixes! 🤖 📜Paper: microsoft.com/en-us/research…
🏆 Best Research Paper Award! 🏆 Huge congratulations to @imYbajpai and the team, from Microsoft for their award-winning paper: "Let's Fix This Together - Conventional Debugging with GitHub Copilot." 🤖💡 Well-deserved recognition! 🎉 #VLHCC2024 #BestPaperAward

New paper from @kevin_x_li, @JacobKim489493, @neurocy (and me!) appearing at OOPSLA2024. TL;DR: We use cursor-local type & binding info from the Hazel language server to shape codegen prompts & stem hallucination, with supporting experiments for TypeScript (more in thread)

here's a cool thing you can do with a structured editor: tables as first-class syntax primitives! lots of use cases beyond matrix definition (let bindings, record literals, match/switch forms) feels so seamless.

I've talked a lot about performance-related features we're working, e.g., unboxed types, locals. But that's not all we're working on! One feature I'm excited about is parameterized libraries. It's an evolution of a feature I've wanted for 22 years! inbox.vuxu.org/caml-list/101…
