Take a minute and read this thread. And then read the last paragraph twice.
In 2023 we saw several rounds of quality conversation around engineering productivity, thanks to McKinsey, @GergelyOrosz and @KentBeck and others.
It moved the industry forwards. 🙌 But it also felt fairly inside baseball to me. Deeply technical, lots of metrics.

🔥 Node just keeps on dropping new goodies.
The styleText util gives us styled logs without a package like Colors or Chalk
💯
I hope what people take from this is that success won’t make you happy. Sadly, I heard that line my whole life but still wasted yrs learning it.
The grind is necessary, but the outcomes for you, your team, and your product, will improve if done mindfully
One counterintuitive thing about seeing all these entrepreneurs going to gym etc:
I never went gym when I started doing startups, I didn't eat particularly clean
But I did have lots of anxiety, depression then
So I don't think it has any correlation with success in business, it's more like an after effect
In fact I think the anxiety/depression can be a great fuel for your ambition, you trick yourself that when you're succesful and rich you'll be happy
But of course you won't be when you reach success
But that's when you finally do start gym and good nutrition and you actually get happy I think

I've been on a mission lately.
The more that I talk to designers working on ultra-high-quality products...
The more I want to understand what it takes to establish a culture of craft.
After months I'm starting to notice some clear patterns 👇

some of you don't know what it's like to have someone who will make your coffee every morning, prepare every meal, keep the house clean-ish, remind you to shower, and not complain that you haven't had time for more than work or parenting in years

Fuck yes. I’m in. Thanks Farza & team.
i've just applied to @_nightsweekends s4, but the problem is I found out about it too late.
Week 1 is already underway.
The good news is I've already completed the Week 1 exercise and have an update ready for Monday.
Let's see if I can sneak in.

If any of these statements describe you:
- I want to do x, but haven't made progress
- I'd like to be more organized than I am
- I need a better task mngr
I'd love to chat. If you can spare 15-30 mins, will find a way to make it worth your time.
Appreciate any RTs for reach ❤️

Does anyone else wish there was a version of church without the church?
Like a collective people of group you share some interest with & saw every Sunday morning for coffee & doughnut holes and listened to some interesting talk.
This is why I say you should only join large companies when you are ready to do minimal work and not care too much about your job.

Eagerly awaiting @Nicolascole77's response....
This is the most generic writing advice I've ever seen and yet people think they invented it. I cannot imagine how far up your own ass you have to be for this to make sense.
Maybe don’t throw stones if you live in a glass house? 🤷♂️

Code is simple and the library's use case well defined. Its also framework agnostic.
But the most remarkable thing?
How @JLarky handles the myriad of unhelpful comments that fail to assume good intent and bring little to the conversation.

I'm not against value pricing.
I am against the lies over the reality of the business.
No one is hiring someone on $200,000/year to create a SINGLE landing page, so the comparison you made is a bit bizarre.
I like what you're doing with Starter Story but you are platforming and adding credibility to a story that
1/ isn't true
2/ even if it was true, was extremely difficult to achieve
3/ cultivates an unrealistic hustle culture that leaves others despondent and out of pocket, while he gets rich selling courses
Brett's story is genuinely amazing.
And it would be even more amazing if it reflected the real hard work he put in (and publicly documented!), rather than lies that sell courses.
And btw, I used the service and liked the work. But you DO NOT get a complete landing page in a day. You get something like scamps and concepts which you then enter multiple rounds of feedback on.
I understand you want to sell the dream too, which is why your YouTube channel presents making money online as simple and democratic, without challenging the claims made, or thoughtful analysis.
I believe makers can share stories like Brett's AND capture what it's really like to build a business - something that is so desperately needed.
And that would be more effective at realising your stated mission to help 1 billion people make more money online.
