We mourn the passing of Fr. Sirianni. His life was defined by three loyalties: his family, his country, and his community. Last year, Fr. Sirianni donated $60,000 to his parish; he worked without compensation. Washington, DC, is not the same without him.
Rest in peace, Father.

Idiom of the Day: "The lion's share," referring to the largest, most significant, or best portion of something. If you do most of the work on a project, you did the lion's share; if you get the biggest cut of the pie, you get the lion's share.
The phrase traces back to Aesop's Fables. In the fable entitled, "The Lion's Share," the lion goes hunting alongside lesser beasts like a fox, a donkey, or a wolf. After they make a kill, the lion divides the prey into four portions. He justifies taking the first three portions due to his royal status, his labor in the hunt, and his strength.
Historically, the phrase originally meant everything or taking the entire thing by force. However, by the late 1700s, the idiom's meaning softened in everyday English to its modern usage: simply taking the biggest part.

From the hardy pioneers on the Oregon Trail to astronauts transcending the limits of Earth itself, America has always been a frontier nation.
We are the greatest nation on Earth. That has been true for 250 years.
And with God’s grace, it will be true for the next 250 as well.
