I don't want to dunk on Notion (a competitor), especially given that they are wildly successful and have a great product. But I'm seeing a lot of users complaining that they prefer adding AI over prioritizing their customers with the core product. At the same time, Obsidian I feel is getting more and more love because they are simple, not in spite of it. ClickUp also had a clear wedge in the beginning because everything was a task. It made it super simple. Adoption was fast, customers were happy. But now I feel they are super confusing to use, with lots of different tools. I'm not saying we haven't committed the same sins. Actually, we were always hyper-customizable, and that was always something held against us, given that it's super hard to onboard a customer. It's never plug and play and it needs consulting. On top of that, we tried to grow PLG/no-touch, which was a huge mistake. But that's a topic for another post. I feel that great, simple products are losing their strength by becoming more AI, more custom. I don't feel those are the features customers ask for. But I believe that even in the AI era, people would be happy to pay for a great tool for docs or tasks. Maybe they will just be replaced by simpler, well-built tools like Obsidian. Or they are the ones eating the short-term pain to make the transition to AI, and will be more successful. I always feel divided when designing new tools regarding AI. Most users are way happier with a better version of an existing feature than with a completely new AI feature. And maybe it's still not too late for Jestor to become great at fewer things, rather than having everything. Do you believe Notion and ClickUp are right? If you're a user, are you happier? PS: I know most comments online are from people complaining, so I truly just want to remove the bias and understand if we're on the right track. #notion #clickup #obsidian #product #AI

AIRTABLE ACQUISITION: WHO GETS THE 💰 HOME // WHO GETS LEFT BEHIND? A breakdown below 👇 (Note: underlying returns and waterfall model built on the assumption of all rounds at standard 1.0x liq pref, non participating - and based on publicly available information) First off, and I'm very glad about this one: 1) the Founders are likely taking real $ home 🙌💵: - overall there was $960m of value left to converting holders (people who did not claim pref in the transaction) - Assuming they still held 15% of the company at exit, Howie Liu, Andrew Ofstad, and Emmett Nicholas will share about $144m combined, so a cool c.~$50m each providing they had equal share 2) The core learning here: anyone investing after the Series C likely just got par on their money 📉... - The problem is that the company raised too much money. So even the Series C at ~$1.1bn post likely had to claim the pref and took 1x multiple of money home - Coatue, Thrive, Greenoaks and XN, the leads from Series C onwards probably just brough par home... The pref worked as intended, but this is certainly not the scenario they underwrote 3) Even in that scenario, the early investors made good money 💰💰💰: - CRV likely got ~20x and ~6x on the Series A and B respectively. That's good money, even after 11 years for the Series A. - The real winners are Caffeinated Capital: ~35x; Freestyle and Felix Shpilman, who probably sit on 50x+ Many assumptions were used to determine the below, and the waterfall model is of course directional, and based on publicly available information. It assumes no structure on the later rounds, and vanilla terms. @HarryStebbings @Kieranleehill (most fervent user of Airtable in our team) @codorniou @NiallKiely20VC

One of my favorite things about building @ruvopay: customers who find us before we find them. Lucas Faria had already built Ruvo into his workflow, receiving USD and paying 0.3% flat with no IOF, before we ever connected. We reached out, and now he's writing the definitive 2026 guide on getting paid in dollars as a Brazilian dev, with Ruvo as part of the story. This is what organic feels like. Go read it. newsletter.nagringa.dev/p/co…

The world is moving toward a future where local payment networks work everywhere. Pix changed how Brazil pays, making instant bank transfers the default for domestic payments. Now, it's beginning to transform how Brazilians pay internationally. Honored to see @ruvopay mentioned by Valor in its coverage of how Brazilians will have more ways to use Pix abroad, including during the World Cup. The future of cross-border payments isn't forcing people onto new payment methods. It's connecting the methods they already use. That's the future we're building at Ruvo

If you're looking for an order to try this in: 1. mise 2. hk (parallel git hooks will change your life) 3. aube (you are now immune to JS hacks) 4. pitchfork (a 'nicer' foreman) 5. fnox (higher up if your team is heavy into password managers and everyone uses diff ones)
Already on the mise train. Time to try the rest.

I think people are sleeping a bit on how much Ruby on Rails + Claude Code is a *crazy unlock* - I mean Rails was designed for people who love syntactic sugar, and LLMs are sugar fiends.

Wired asked whether Ruby is a serious programming language. I wrote a response, mostly because the whole premise made me smile. 😊 Somewhere along the way, we decided that if a tool is pleasant to use, it must not be credible… that joy is suspicious… that clarity is unprofessional. After a long time helping teams with real software in the real world, I’ve learned the opposite. Seriousness is a terrible predictor of success. The serious candidate doesn’t always win. The serious startup doesn’t always get traction. The serious rewrite doesn’t always help. Ruby leans into the human side of programming. That’s not a flaw. It’s a feature. Especially in a future where readability and sanity will matter more than ever.
