BREAKING: Animal rescuer Wayne Hsiung was just sentenced to 3 months in jail in Sonoma County, California, followed by 2 years of probation. Judge Laura Passaglia also ordered that Wayne have NO CONTACT with the other named “co-conspirators” including several of his closest friends. Wayne was taken straight from the courtroom back to the jail where he has been since November 2, when he was convicted of one count of felony conspiracy and two counts of misdemeanor trespass for his involvement in nonviolent animal rescues at Sunrise Farms and Reichardt Duck Farm. Wayne and other DxE activists took action to aid animals directly as a last resort after county authorities ignored repeated reports with evidence of criminal animal cruelty at these factory farms. Despite continued reports including new evidence of neglected, injured and dying animals from this year, the authorities are still failing to intervene. Melbourne tunneling expert, Arnold Dix, has been hailed a hero after helping rescue 41 men trapped in a collapsed tunnel for 17 days.
The men became trapped after a tunnel in the northern Himalayas collapsed on November 12, blocking the miners' only exit with more than 60 metres of broken rock, concrete and twisted metal.
Until today, the Indian miners had been receiving food, water and oxygen through a 53m pipe, inserted through the debris.
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the rescue operation, saying the success “is making everyone emotional”.
