Interesting to hear that the #cast of Trajan's Column at @V_and_A could actually be considered as more 'authentic' than the original in Rome, which has endured significant erosion since the cast was made around 1864 @lastimpression_ #LastingImpressions19 vam.ac.uk/content/articles/t…

The Ruthwell cross, whos inclusion of text upon its decoration 'speaks' to the viewer as it looks down upon them.
A powerful description of a humanised 'aura' and the anthropological value of these incredible objects.

Super excited to see this paper - I adore the @V_and_A Cast Courts. For those of you who have visited, how 'authentic' do you consider the casts to be? What was your reaction when you saw them? I'm still awed every time I visit @lastimpression_ #lastingimpressions19

Mould making was another concern. A meeting at the British Museum helped Kate understand the possibilities of making piece moulds from jesmonite. Silicone was used for the head. #lastingimpressions19

Kate created a sculpture for the sole purpose of destroying it, to see how the material would fragment. Her work will help archaeologists to understand the fragmentary remains that they have from ancient pieces. #lastingimpressions19

Documentation from the original was used to restage the exhibition. A review was conducted into the materials to make it safer for the public. But was the authenticity of the exhibition compromised by this? #lastingimpressions19

Can we ever truly recreate an exhibition? How do we define and measure an exhibition’s success? Who decides? Are we remembering exhibitions for the right reasons? Lots of interesting questions raised by @lauraemilyart’s work. #lastingimpressions19

Something, many of us have heard, is 'we do science not history' as a way of skirting around racism. Apart from Darwin. Evolution. Linnaeus. Banks. Challenger. Owen... all the stuff we wheel out to legitimise Nat hist as culture. #ChallengingHistories @littlegaudy @NatHistGirl
