A young Gayatri Spivak smoking as she discusses Lyotard, Derrida, and phallogocentric, rationalist narratives with a bunch of white men.

Most of the Ukrainians our region took in as refugees speak Russian.
Proud to announce that students in England will be able to study Ukrainian at GCSE. It’s a chance for pupils to explore Ukraine’s rich culture and history and, for the Ukrainian community to remain connected to their heritage. This is another step in our enduring support for Ukraine as part of the 100 Year Partnership 🇺🇦🇬🇧

How about apologising for your family's role in communism - the most evil ideology on the planet?

The response: "should politely acknowledge Ramsay's concerns and move on. There's no need to rise to provocation..[…] It will only help the right wing media if people call for him to be expelled or worse, as they will report on the cruel violence of the Green hard-left."
Replying to @meadwaj
She got absolutely everything she wanted from that interview. It's naive in the extreme to believe that Kuensberg & the BBC are engaged in a disinterested exercise in discovering the truth. They are constructing a truth that sustains the status quo. Stategically, the Greens should be using high-profile interviews like this to disrupt, expose, question and unsettle the status quo; to express and highlight the multiple contradictions of our absurd moment. This interview did the opposite, casting rupture as "divisive" and anathema to "core" Green values, and giving the manufacturers of the status quo tools to undermine a new politics. Ramsay was either foolish or disingenuous if he believed it was a neutral forum to begin a discussion, as his answers gave them everything they needed to shout about entryism, Polanksi's "divisive politics", hard-left scaremongering and the threat of a future leadership challenge. He either knew what he was doing or he is a staggering naif. Either way, unless his intention is to beat down the membership through media pressure, this intervention will do nothing to help the Party navigate a tough moment, and only helps those forces that want to put the Greens back in their box. It means the Greens are having an internal fight online today instead of preparing to raise hell about Mahmood's new immigration plans today. My sense, btw, is that those who are sympathetic to Polanski should politely acknowledge Ramsay's concerns and move on. There's no need to rise to provocation..This isn't the Labour Party. There isn't a bureaucracy and nevertheless structure that means he can do anything more than carp. It will only help the right wing media if people call for him to be expelled or worse, as they will report on the cruel violence of the Green hard-left.

Zac Polanski received 84.1% of the leadership votes. Adrian Ramsay received 15.3% 🤦🏻‍♀️
The Green Party is at a crossroads. We need to build consensus and focus outward. We’ll deliver the changes our society needs now and for the future only if the British public comes with us. That’s the Green Party I want to see.

It wasn't meant to be an interview, it was a political performance.
Having now listened to the Adrian Ramsey interview, the main I took from it was what a crashingly bad interviewer Laura Kuenssberg is - unable to ask an interesting question or get anything g worthwhile out of her guest because she is too busy pursuing her own agenda.

It's true that the world's media couldn't and can't get in, but it's been filmed and it's being filmed. Take a look.
This is a video I recently filmed in the streets of Gaza. My city has vanished from existence!

Millions of pounds meant for patient care are being siphoned away into the pockets of private equity investors. They’re draining vital funds from public hospitals and leaving our health service weaker in the long run. Send our letter to your MP: everydoctor.eaction.org.uk/s…

I can't decide if @matthew_weaver is just plain ignorant or chasing clicks. What kind of idiocy to only mention Malm's 'How to blow up a pipeline' book (because Malm is appearing alongside Huda Ammari) without: a) mentioning any of the others; b) grasping its subject matter. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Priorities, please!
Picked up this 1960s Soviet biography of Gramsci. It notes that he loved panettone and, even more tenderly, his mother, but regretfully had to leave her for the struggle (implying that he never left the panettone)

What in the name of Zeus has @ukhomeoffice done by blocking Andreas Malm, one of the foremost academic climate experts in the world, from visiting the UK? This is extraordinary behaviour.

This tells you everything. There's huge investment both politically and financially in this war. It is not going to be relinquished very easily.
Telling that even Ukraine’s endorsement isn’t enough for some to make a European call to Putin acceptable. You have to wonder what would make it acceptable.

How can anyone write for Unherd? The owners are backers of the far-right. In between a variable range of writing, Unherd publishes some extremely unsavoury people. I'm not talking about 'conservative' writers - I'm referring to blatantly far-right and/or backed by big fossil.

The exit polls are out, and the projections are as expected: the Eisenkot-led opposition bloc can depose Netanyahu by forming a minority government supported by Arab parties who are willing to play this role — but most of the bloc’s leaders have ruled this out👇
I followed Israel’s election campaign so you don’t have to. Bottom line: Rather than win with the help of Palestinian parties, the anti-Netanyahu bloc is preparing to lose without them. 972mag.com/israeli-election-…

The funniest thing of all is when people use these situations to wrap around their theorising, squeeze it into a shape that 'fits' and pronounce. I'm used to seeing this in commentary about a mythical 'global south' but I guess seeing it about Europe is still a novelty to me.
The pontificating from a distance about Serbian elections is just stuff & nonsense. It's like people who confidently tweet shit about Europe based on Politico headlines. Just take a breath - there's some great comments & on here from people who actually live & work there. 🤦🏻‍♀️

"The interviewees belong to a cohort of liberal Israelis where, […] ‘no one hates Arabs.’ They are not settlers or far-right extremists but secular, educated, technologically sophisticated ‘liberals’ – the class who end up, […] ‘killing most Arabs’. lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v48/n20/…

Why does @RStatecraft use the dodgiest form of cookie tracking available? It's almost impossible to revoke and enables some of the worst tracking on your device for up to 10 years It is possibly not visible to non-Europeans. No ethical organisation should permit this.

Instead of buying into Israeli suggestions that there's some kind of 'oppositional' party to counter Netanyahu read this great interview by Jonathan Shainin talking to Nathan Thrall.
Today is election day in Israel. The choice is between 2 shades of darkness. This interview with Nathan Thrall, is absolutely the best analysis you will read. equator.org/articles/israel-…

How can they do this? Their dirty game in Sudan is bad enough but UAE is the money-laundering capital of the Middle East and a serious front player for Israel.
UAE diplomat Lana Nusseibeh is new frontrunner in race for UN's top job. But today, when a human rights group quizzed her on UAE's widely reported arms supplies to Sudan's RSF, she simply dodged the question, saying it should be answered by a UAE official. webtv.un.org/en/asset/k18/k1…
