NYC Emergency Management is monitoring a potential severe geomagnetic storm that may impact New York City on October 10-11. Our federal partners from the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) have issued a Geomagentic Storm Watch.
NYC Emergency Management advises New Yorkers to monitor Notify NYC for emergency updates. Sign up for alerts at NYC.gov/notifynyc or by calling 311. While the public does not need to take any action at this time, we always encourage everyone to stay informed through Notify NYC and having an emergency plan in place that includes a Go Bag with an AM radio.
Impacts to critical infrastructure, including GPS, power grids, and communications including inaccuracies or disruptions, are possible.
A fast CME erupted from the Sun the evening of 8 Oct and is likely to arrive at Earth on 10 Oct. This CME has been analyzed and there is potential to reach G4 levels upon arrival and throughout CME passage. Visit swpc.noaa.gov/news/g4-severe… for the full story.

Every community board should formally demand daylighting of every intersection in the city
Replying to @dahvnyc
Here's what the tow truck driver would have seen right before the turn. Notice that the crosswalk isn't even visible. Maybe we should't let people park so far up in intersections.
We need a total reset on pedestrian safety @NYCMayorsOffice @crystalrhudson @BKBPReynoso this morning’s tragedy is the result of murderous inaction by government to make streets safe for people.

BIG news for smaller residential buildings: Starting fall 2024, 1-9 unit buildings MUST put trash in bins, and by summer 2026, MUST put trash in new official NYC Bins - which will be available at far, far below retail price.

Sanitation officials announced that, next fall, most residential buildings must curb their trash in bins
But not just any bins - government-approved, contractor-designed bins, in part to allow sanitation trucks mechanically dump the trash

When Robert Moses extended the FDR south of the Brooklyn Bridge in the 1950s, he created a massive, noisy, ugly barrier between the people of Lower Manhattan and their waterfront.
80 years later, it’s time to tear it down.
This seems like a perfect acquisition for a CLT or other non-profit model that is focused on maintaining access to quality housing.
