Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I just got The Poll (the one where they ask “which would you vote for” for a dozen combinations of Mamdani vs. X) and my finger got tired from clicking “Mamdani” over and over but this made me laugh

To recap, the meeting was:
-held in direct violation of a court order
-called by the former chair who has no authority to do so
-conducted using illegal rules changes that have 2x been struck down in court
-shielded from press and the public
-at 10 pm on a Sunday night

We expect the former chair to soon claim that a new chair has been elected. This will be false, and this late-night zoom call masquerading as an exec committee meeting, like every prior step of her attempt to cling to power, was an affront to the democratic values of our party.

Only a bit related but I find it funny that they call shield bugs stink bugs in the US, I've handled hundreds and they've never once stunk
I know they can, but naming animals after what they do if you try to murder them is a bit silly, that's like calling us the piss pants ape
Just impressed my American traveling companions here in Greece with a music party trick almost every EU resident over 18 and almost no American of any age can do: identifying Eros Ramazzotti in five seconds
After like 20 years of TSA pre-check I had to go through the normal security line at JFK T4 this week bc I was traveling with a group and it was so, so much worse than I remember — is it not possible to process the passenger volume fast enough to avoid a 40-min shuffling queue?
This is not a hot take or anything but I’m in Greece rn (roughly my 12th time in Europe, both pre- and post-EU) and it’s plain that the formation of the European Union made life richer, safer, better in so many ways for hundreds of millions of people
US government is run by a bunch of small business tyrant types and they’re imposing small business tyrant standards to abuse workers. Low human capital at work.
TSA says it is removing chairs at document checks in airports, requiring staff to stand for their shift.
TSA explained the reason as twofold: to ensure its employees meet its fitness standards and to create an amiable environment for travelers. wapo.st/4AIo7ZJ
I am in a loud beachfront shisha bar on a Cycladic island and somehow I am barely above the median age, the shoulder season is wild
On our (Delta) flight to Athens yesterday someone went into the restroom TWO MINUTES before touchdown, after the cabin crew had abruptly ended service and strapped in due to rough air — I’ve never heard a flight attendant so angry and the pilots came close to aborting the landing
i know we always talk about people at airports being the dumbest people you’ve ever met but i promise you the people on my flight right now are THE dumbest air passengers of all time. multiple people stood up and opened the overhead bins to get things out of their bag DURING TAKEOFF!!! like while the plane is at a 45 degree angle TAKING OFF! is this your first time on planet earth ??? the flight attendants were SCREAMINGGGG omg they were so mad lmao
Am I just old? I find it literally inconceivable that I would no-show a wedding unless I were actively contagious with a serious communicable disease, and if I did I would send my extreme regrets
The no show on weddings—WEDDINGS—is between 20-30%. People have sent out engraved invitations months in advance and paid north of $100 for a meal. The selfishness of flaking on social engagements is indicative of “I owe nothing to anyone” mindset and is corrosive to society.
In Greece at a nice hotel and the friendly staff keep asking where we’re from and dammit we keep doing the thing (saying New York instead of United States)
to be fair, the one time we said “United States” they immediately asked us where
this is complete nonsense. if you try to read euler or gauss you will barely understand anything given the language and notation of the day. contemporary textbooks are vastly superior for actually learning the mathematics they invented.

You know when you read the authors of mathematics you can understand mathematics at a far deeper level than when you just do the workbook right?
Apropos of this I’m rewatching Curb in order as a complete oeuvre for the first time this month and anyway here I am today randomly passing the apt building Larry lived downstairs from Michael J. Fox in (at right) in Season 8
