Today I discovered the 'bring your own GitLab runner' ๐Ÿ˜…, so after some configuration, I went around the minutes limit. I'm starting to get SRE stuff ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ”ซ #gitlab #sre #istillwanttokillmyself
Dealing with a 400-minute limit on GitLab Cloud really pushes me to optimise every step and eliminate all waste. Writing software is much easier. #gitlab #sre #iwanttokillmyself

I just finished reading this. It's not my usual area, but I really enjoyed learning new things. I definitely look forward to reading it again. Great job, @lucamezzalira

It's here!! This is the one I have been talking about! AWS Lambda Durable Functions are now officially out. If you want to see a deep dive of this, My buddy Michael Gasch (one of the PMs behind the magic) and I are presenting this on Wednesday. The catalog is getting updated, but watch for CNS380. aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/buiโ€ฆ

Okay, so this is *really* handy for managing composite secondary indexes on DynamoDB tables. Way too often we run into situations where we want to upsert a record, but we have incomplete data to regenerate the composite key. For example, let's say we have a composite sort key for "{country}#{state}#{city}". If we want to update just the city, we need to have the country and state attributes available so we can properly rebuild the composite key. With this update, we can now update just the ONE attribute and the keys are automatically regenerated for us! Super useful when you don't have the entire object when upserting (like partial data from events). Also, sorting respects each attribute's type (string, number, or binary), so composite sort keys that are mixed like "{customerName}#{invoiceNo}" no longer need to be stored as "acme#02031" and "acme#00045" to lexicographically sort correctly. Now you essentially get accurate sort order with the equivalent of "acme#2031" and "acme#45". No more zero-padding! Oh yeah, you also get AUTOMATIC BACKFILLING with existing attributes. Create a new index using existing attributes and you magically have all your composite keys generated for you! I haven't spent a lot of time with this, but the query interface will be a bit more tricky as you'll need to specify all the matching attributes in your key condition expression. But who knows, maybe someone will build an open source library to make it easier. ๐Ÿ˜€ aws.amazon.com/blogs/databasโ€ฆ

Need to clean up your AWS Account? Check out @dannysteenman's AWS Toolbox repository and reuse some of the existing scripts like - counting/deleting log groups - setting retention of log groups - removing old AMIs - delete empty buckets ... and much more! I'd love building these things into one central dedicated CLI soon ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿ’ป ๐Ÿ”— github.com/towardsthecloud/aโ€ฆ

know people might hate this but i'm pretty uninterested in standardization in most cases especially early on - it ends up being way too many voices, many of which work for companies that won't make it, many of those who move on to other jobs wasted energy
