After reading Google’s announcement that they no longer plan to deprecate third-party cookies, we the @w3ctag wanted to make our position clear. Third-party cookies have got to go. We have updated our TAG finding Third-party Cookies Must be Removed to spell out our concerns. /1
This is NOT good for personal data rights on the web. #privacy “Instead of deprecating third-party cookies, we would introduce a new experience in Chrome that lets people make an informed choice that applies across their web browsing.” privacysandbox.com/news/priv…

In React, I group related state into one useState. Here’s why: ✅Requires less code. ✅Makes it easy to send to the server. ✅Can create a single onChange handler that sets the relevant property. ✅Clarifies the relationship between fields, which makes the code easier to understand. These values represent something. What is the name of the "thing" they represent, together? Grouping state answers this important question.

Hey, developers: you would be amazed how much more competent business people think you are, and how they assume not doing things quickly is about being lazy or petulant rather than having to constantly look things up and experiment to get answers.

I’ve been teaching product management and lean ux for nearly 15 years now. Despite unique industry and cultural contexts, the same questions come up from each team or company I work with. The top 3 are: 1. What’s going to change tomorrow?

You cannot fail a sprint. Sprints cannot fail. The purpose of a sprint is to produce management data. A sprint that delivers zero stories has produced very important and useful data for managers.

Birgitta Böckeler continues her explorations, asking GitHub Copilot to write a median function. It gave her 3 suggestions to choose from. This shows you still have to know what you're doing, since the LLM's programming skills are often flawed. martinfowler.com/articles/ex…

TDD is a small discipline that is applied to small problems. Typically 3-5 lines of code. Those small tests are written concurrently — line by line — with the production code. One line of test and then one line of code, in a very tight loop.

Naming is hard, so we should just use arbitrary names and try to keep them straight in our heads. Custom types take effort so we should deeply nest native types and try to remember what each subscript means. Code is hard, so transfer more burden to heads? No thank you.

Conway's Law says the structure of the code reflects the structure of the org. When management arbitrarily reorganizes teams to work on "projects," they are also randomly & arbitrarily changing your architecture. No wonder monoliths in project-thinking orgs are such a mess.
