The Jason Arday story would make a wonderful drama. From learning to read at the age of 18 to a Cambridge professorship at 37. Combined with amazing athletic feats. And then the story starts to unravel... The plagiarism allegations are serious. But as a runner, the part that blows my mind is that Arday claimed to have run 600 miles in 6 days. If true, that would make him an international elite athlete. Yet UK athletics website Power of Ten doesn't register any times at all for Arday, not even a parkrun. Cambridge could argue that it doesn't matter if one of their academics has a rich fantasy life. And that would be fair as long as he was appointed on his merits and not for his inspirational/implausible life story. Could it be that academics are some of the most gullible people alive? telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/07…
Diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at the age of 3, Jason Arday learnt to read & write at 18. On Monday he’ll start work as @Cambridge_Uni’s youngest black Professor. It was a real privilege to help tell his story @BBCNews

This will be an excellent scientific session at EASL 2026 congress on HCC in the background of metabolic liver disease. It’s an early morning session on 30th May but is going to be well worth the early morning wake up! @EASLnews @CancerInflam @Valeriechew29

🧬 #ScienceSaturday ❓ What if the “energy state” of an immune cell determines how well it can fight cancer? ➡️ In a new study published in @ScienceMagazine, researchers found that dendritic cells inside tumors exist in two mitochondrial states, and only the “high-energy” cells effectively activate CD8+ T cells. ➡️ These high-functioning cells rely on the OPA1–NRF1 pathway to sustain mitochondrial metabolism and preserve antigen presentation. ➡️ When this pathway breaks down, antigen presentation drops and anti-tumor immune responses weaken. 🌟 Reprogramming immune cell metabolism could help strengthen immunotherapy responses and overcome treatment resistance. 🔗 Read the study: science.org/doi/10.1126/scie… @hongbo_chi @StJude

When you read any BS on here about medicine and pharma being bad guys think of this. Over the past 50 years heart disease has declined by 70%. To put into context, that is the population of Atlanta saved every year in USA alone.

In a world where there actually people who don’t believe in microbes or DNA because they hate modern science and medicine it’s amazing that a baby has been cured of a deadly disease by therapeutic gene editing using a technology derived from a microbe. nature.com/articles/d41586-0…

Very excited to be just a weekend away from this UK conference on neutrophil biology that we are hosting at Newcastle. It includes international keynotes but most important the majority of speakers are early career researchers. #immunology #inflammation #neutrophils #humandisease
