🚨Why can’t mammals regenerate limbs like frog tadpoles or salamanders?
In our new paper in @ScienceMagazine, we show that species-specific oxygen sensing acts as a gatekeeper for initiating limb regeneration 🐭🐸

Two years since the 1st submission, our work on limb heterochrony is finally out! 🎉🎊@CellCellPress
Delayed hindlimb dev vs forelimb is a widely conserved trait in mammals. We show that maternal O2 regulates this phenotype 👉🏻 shorturl.at/MGrwl

#lipidtime: It's a lipid universe. Today in Nature we publish the Lipid Brain Atlas, the first map of membrane lipid composition across the entire mouse brain, a layer of organisation that cell-type and transcript maps had left out. #lipidomics #neuroscience #BrainAtlas
Our step-by-step protocol for generating mesodermal/limb bud organoids (“budoids”) from mouse stem cells or primary limb buds is now out! 🧫🦵
We hope it makes the system easier to adopt and build on in other labs!

And if you’re new to budoids, you can find the original study describing their development and applications here 👇 science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…
Fantastic news! 🎉 Huge congratulations to our postdoc @SilviaDaPra for being awarded an @EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowship! Exceptionally well deserved. We're so proud of you and excited to see what comes next 🐸 #FrogPower !

Two new Science studies in mice explore the roots of vertebrate limb regeneration and show that manipulating tissue mechanics, oxygen levels, and epigenetic signals can unlock regenerative potential.
The findings have the potential to open new doors for improved healing in humans.

Researchers at EPFL have discovered how oxygen-sensing explains why amphibians regenerate limbs and mammals do not.

Une équipe de l'EPFL a découvert comment la détection de l'oxygène explique pourquoi les amphibiens régénèrent leurs membres et pas les mammifères.

This work started at @EPFL , @epflSV and submission/revision took place during our relocation and lab rebuild (!)at our new home @maxplanckpress @MPI_Bio
Enormous thanks to both institutions for supporting the project throughout!!
Massive team effort—especially @GeorgeTsissios many thanks to our collaborators @EpiGN_Lab , @WickstromLab , and others who contributed. Cheers!🍾🥂🥳
