This is exactly how I feel. Support whoever you want to support. Sing their praises, defend them, campaign for them, and do whatever you want. Nobody expects everyone to support the same candidate. But if you have the voice to defend this government at every opportunity, you should also have the voice to call them out when they fail. You cannot be loud in their defence and suddenly develop selective amnesia when Nigerians are bearing the consequences of their policies.
During the 2023 campaign, President Tinubu stood in Ogun State and told Nigerians complaining about fuel prices not to worry, that he would reduce them. The day he was sworn in, fuel prices tripled. Now, barely three years later, we are talking about prices around ₦1,300.
Over three years in, can anyone honestly say the cost of living is better?
Yet some people are still more concerned about defending the government than confronting the reality Nigerians are living with.
Beyond that, there are legitimate concerns about the priorities of this government, from healthcare and education to the general welfare of Nigerians. These are the things we should be questioning, regardless of who we support.
Where is your voice when people are genuinely suffering?
If your voice only comes alive when someone criticises this government but disappears when Nigerians demand accountability, then you are not holding the government to any standard. You are simply defending your preferred candidate, no matter the cost.
Support your candidate all you want, but please, let your conscience not disappear simply because it is your preferred candidate in power. When people complain about the hardship, you don’t always have to jump to the government’s defence. Sometimes, Nigerians are genuinely suffering, and that alone should matter to you. If you can find your voice to defend them, you should also find your voice to demand accountability from them. That is what fairness should look like.
Your loyalty to a politician should never be greater than your concern for the people living with the consequences of their decisions.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with working or affiliating with the government.
Take their money, defend them, sing their praises. That’s all within your prerogative. But when the government you’re choosing to affiliate with is responsible for mass hunger, pains and suffering then you’re very well in the wrong and there’s no amount of gaslighting and manipulation tactics you want to deploy, you simply cannot erase the realities of the people who have suffered at the hands of the reforms and “tough decisions” this government has made.
I don’t think we truly realize that people can no longer afford to live.
I’ll give you an example.
My mechanic is at Obalende, Lagos Island. So whenever I go there, I like to eat street food. That tiny meat we used to decorate the top of our plate was once N20. Now it’s N200. A spoon of beans is now N500 and the cheapest amount of jollof rice you can buy is N500.
Now I should be able to afford food and eat till I’m satisfied if the government is working, right? Sadly, that’s not the case. People now rationalize what they eat, when they eat. Balance diet is out the window, that means on an average, we are all unhealthy.
Let’s do the maths.
Jollof 2 spoons 1,000
Beans 2 spoons 1,000
1 egg is 250
2 beef is 400
Takeaway pack is 150
Bottled water 200
Before you submit your rebuttal, go to your kitchen and put 2 spoons of rice and beans in a plate and look at the quantity. If you don’t have rice at home, then why exactly would you want to attack this? Can’t you see the problem?
It costs approximately N3,000 to feed. If you have to eat twice that’s N6,000. Multiply this by eating everyday in a month. That’s N90,000 for one person without any dependents. It now costs 90k to eat an unbalanced and unhealthy meal in a month. Minimum wage is 70,000 and this covers every aspect of life including feeding. The alternative is shortening your ration. I’m losing my mind as I’m typing this because this is actually unbelievable.
Now, I’d spend more than 3k at Obalende because I’m able to afford it. But there are millions of Nigerians who can’t, who earn lower than the minimum wage. That means if they’re reading this, seeing someone spend 3k on a meal would be considered a waste because asides all the other things they need money for: transportation, bills, emergencies and other psychological needs, spending three thousand naira out of the money they’ve labored for to eat, is just ridiculous. This is the reality today.
It is okay to defend this government, freedom of choice and expression, but asides from the mobilization fee you’ve gotten this period, Nigerians (including yourself) as a whole have not benefited from this government and there’s no logical reason why this government should return.
So let me ask, why are you so invested in the success of a wealthy politician, as opposed to fighting for your rights and your own survival?
Everyone is at fault except the Avalon driver. The other bus was parked on the fast lane, left side on the road. No one does that unless your car is damaged(put C-caution). If you slam the brakes too hard, your car can skid. If he was overspeeding, the impact would be crazier.
60-70km means you need at least 5 seconds to come to a complete stop if you slam in the brakes.
Consider the whole thing happened in 3 seconds.
- The driver Toyota driver for over speeding.
- The bus driver for not checking for incoming traffic before swerving into the road.
- The second bus had no fault.
- Where did the keke come out from? Was it parked on the road?

Funny enough, those two you mentioned are probably saving you from wasting your time.
Some companies already know who they intend to hire, yet advertise vacancies and drag hopeful applicants through interviews just to tick a procedural box.
Recruiters who participate in this should be ashamed. People spend money, prepare extensively, and take time off for opportunities that were never genuinely available to them.
If the position is already spoken for, stop staging recruitment exercises. Job seekers’ time, money, and hopes are not props for your corporate theatre.
