Your email, social media, and work accounts hold conversations, contacts, and information that others trust you to protect. This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, DPI encourages you to strengthen your account security: 🔐 Use long, unique passwords for every account. 🗝️ Use a reputable password manager to generate and store them securely. 📲 Enable two-factor authentication wherever available. 🚫 Keep passwords and verification codes private. For human rights defenders, journalists, and civil society organisations, protecting an account also helps protect the people connected to it. Start today: replace a reused password and enable two-factor authentication on your main email account. Save this reminder and share it with your team. “Remind me later” can become a habit. Software updates often fix security weaknesses in the devices and applications we depend on. Check your phone, computer, browser and work apps today. For teams, agree on who checks updates and when. Give digital security a place on your calendar. #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth #DigitalSecurity #DPI

💡 DID YOU KNOW? Your password is only one layer of protection. If someone steals it, multifactor authentication (MFA) adds another check before they can access your account. For organisations, that extra layer helps protect sensitive conversations, contacts, and information entrusted to you. 🔐 Enable MFA on your email, social media, and work accounts. 🚫 Never share verification codes. 📲 Never approve a login request you did not initiate. This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, take a moment to check your settings. Have you enabled MFA on your main email account? When someone asks “How are you?”, does your answer include how you feel online? The anxiety when a notification arrives. The pressure to always be available. The comments that stay with you long after you close the app. The scrolling that leaves you feeling more drained than connected. Some of what we carry follows us off-screen. This #WorldMentalHealthDay, we invite you to pause and ask: How is my digital life affecting how I feel? At Defenders Protection Initiative, we created DPI Pulse to help you check in on your digital wellness. Make a little space today to reflect. Happy Independence Day, Uganda! 🇺🇬 As we capture today’s celebrations, let’s protect the privacy of those celebrating with us. Ask before posting someone’s photo. Check the background for private information. Consider whether a location tag could expose someone. Responsible sharing helps keep our communities safer online. #UgandaIndependence #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth #Ugandaat64 #Uganda64

Our team was in Lira conducting Digital Security Clinics with Passion Aid Foundation Africa and Human Rights Initiative. The sessions focused on strengthening participants’ practical digital security skills, increasing awareness of online risks, and supporting safer digital practices for individuals and organisations working in civic and human rights spaces. Through practical discussions and hands-on learning, participants explored ways to better protect their devices, accounts, communications, and sensitive information from common digital threats. At Defenders Protection Initiative, we continue to take digital security support closer to organisations and communities, helping human rights defenders and civil society actors navigate an increasingly complex digital environment with greater confidence and resilience. Secure Online. Well Offline. #DigitalSecurity #CyberSecurity #DigitalSafety #HumanRightsDefenders #CivilSociety #DigitalResilience #Lira #Uganda #DPI
