I legitimately can't stand the lies. Transgender activist Andrea James is upset that @DavidMastio's op-ed was featured on The Boston Globe's front page.
"There is a longstanding journalistic convention that newspapers generally keep opinion columns...off the front page."
That just...isn't true.

These sorts of analyses always miss the most salient point: at any time after starting the war with its brutal massacre, and Hamas could have ended it by releasing the hostages and surrendering.
Hamas, however, has no mercy or empathy for the people of Gaza, so it refused to do so even after it was abundantly clear that (a) it had lost militarily and (b) the war, and Hamas's strategy of fighting it within civilian infrastructure, was a catastrophe for Gaza's civilians.
So you're asking Israelis to show much more concern for Gaza's civilians than said civilians own government showed.
And to do so after many Gaza civilians participated in the atrocities of 10/7, cheered them afterwards, and participating in holding the hostages in captivity.
You are, in short, asking Israelis to be more saintly than any other people at war has ever been known to be.
I wonder if we went through The Economist's archives how much concern for the suffering of German civilians during World War II we'd find?
Did British troops facilitate massive aid to the German population during the war?

A landmark Finnish study has found a sharp rise in psychiatric illness among adolescents following sex-alteration procedures.
The peer-reviewed study, published in Acta Paediatrica, tracked every young person under 23 who contacted Finland's gender clinics between 1996 and 2019.
A total 2,083 individuals were studied, with 16,643 matched controls. They were followed for up to 25 years.
Finland's health registers are mandatory, which means no one opts out — this is the complete national picture.
The numbers: psychiatric morbidity rose from 9.8% to 60.7% in adolescents who underwent feminising reassignment, and from 21.6% to 54.5% in masculinising reassignment.
Even after adjusting for prior psychiatric history, gender-referred adolescents faced five times the risk of male population controls, and three times the risk of female controls.
"Psychiatric needs do not subside after medical gender reassignment," the authors concluded.
Referrals after 2010 arrived sicker. 47.9% had already needed psychiatric treatment before their first clinic visit, against 15.3% among controls.
The authors' read: for some adolescents, gender distress may be secondary to other mental health challenges.
The evidence keeps mounting. The silencing continues anyway.

To @piersmorgan and so many others. A prominent Gaza journalist states that if you didn't report what Hamas wanted you'd be "disappeared." That's why the notion of international journalists waltzing into Gaza to report anything other than Hamas propaganda is preposterous.

There is no famine. Those pictures of “emaciated” Gazan kids are actually children born with genetic disorders caused by the extremely high cousin-marriage rate there.

A Massachusetts family says the state took custody of their teenage daughter after they refused to affirm her as a boy, citing their Catholic faith.
The parents allege a school counselor socially transitioned their daughter without their knowledge, then reported them to the Department of Children and Families.
Now the state has guardianship, and a restraining order prevents the teen's parents and older brother from contacting her.

By 1947, Jews held about 463,000 acres. Most of it bought. 73% of the plots were purchased from absentee landowners living in Cairo, Damascus, and Beirut.
John Hope Simpson walked the country in 1930 and wrote the sentence the slogans cannot survive: the Jews paid high prices, and then paid tenants to whom they were under no legal obligation to pay a dime.
In 1944 as the Holocaust raged, Jews were paying $1,000 to $1,100 an acre for sand and marsh. For comparison, Iowa black dirt that year was going for $110 an acre.
King Abdullah later wrote in his memoirs that the Arabs were as prodigal in selling as they are in weeping.
It was all the rage to sell worthless land to Jews for exorbitant prices. The mayors of Gaza and Jerusalem sold land to Jews. Members of the Muslim Supreme Council sold land to Jews. As’ad el-Shukairy, the father of the first PLO chairman, took Jewish money for land.
The nationalism came after the check cleared.
