The 8-hour day is an artifact of the industrial age. It’s how you get 3 shifts in a factory. They were 12-hours in the 19th c.
IMO, 40-hour weeks, 8 hours/day, is not sustainable for knowledge work. 6 hours is about the max for any productivity. The other 2 is just punishment.
