A reminder that Smyth is not Justin Welby’s only safeguarding failing. He was guilty of another serious failing whilst Dean of Liverpool (investigated by IICSA). His refusal to resign shows that he doesn’t take either seriously

I don’t have much hope in the Jesus he wants to introduce people to, because that Jesus seems more interested in Russell Brand than in any of the women who say that Brand hurt them.

There was never much a ‘meh’ response. Pretty much everyone involved are good empathic people. Many of them would clean up Mike’s messes. It’s important not to paint them as heartless as the lesson from Soul Survivor is that these things can happen in (otherwise) good places.
