For this year’s midterm election, I was in Washington, DC, with an @NSLforAmerica team.
We prepared to assist elected and election officials if the Federal government interfered with voting and election results.
We hoped for the best, but prepared for the worst. We were extremely grateful that our assistance was unneeded.
The next day, I visited the National Archives to view the document that I and many others vowed to protect and defend.
I left with renewed hope for our country.
Yet, I am not Pollyanish. We still have a great deal of work left to do.

Anathema to the @NatlParkService's mission, @MLB approached the Trump Administration about using Grand Teton National Park as a venue for a future baseball game.
Unlike baseball and apple pie, our national parks are truly an American idea meant to “conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wildlife therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same…” for all of us and our posterity.
Play ball somewhere else; leave Grand Teton (and other National Parks) to the generations who come after us.

I conclude my series on E Pluribus Unum by reflecting on the America that emerged in the days and weeks after 9/11.
Twenty-five years ago, the nation embodied these words, and we can do so again.
Perhaps it is time to restore our national motto to the words our founding fathers gave us, which have best described the American experience for 250 years.
