Hurricane Isaias will be an excellent test for AI modeling. The AI has struggled all year with storms before they formed. The AI has steadily brought a hurricane to the far western Florida Panhandle this weekend. The old school physics models are closer to New Orleans. This below is the latest Google AI model. Big implications on who gets impacted this weekend. AI insists its the FL Panhandle strike. Physics models insist its eastern Louisiana.
Holy…..
A publisher just quantified something most of us talk about in the abstract: 214 bot page loads for every 1 human on his site. JS-based analytics showed ~500 visitors a day. His server logs told a different story. There are MILLIONS of weekly requests.
The part that should worry anyone thinking long-term: his hardest problem wasn’t the obvious bots. SEO crawlers and datacenter traffic are easy to block.
His hardest problem was residential botnets. These are real ISPs, real browsers, CAPTCHAs solved, indistinguishable from a human on any single signal.
That’s the trajectory for the open web. Detection built around “does this look like a bot” keeps losing ground to traffic engineered specifically not to look like one.
As a media buyer, have you asked your ad verification vendor how they are addressing this?

Currently driving through Vermont. It’s hard to believe that this and Texas, where we were last week, are the same country. It’s like a different world here.
My all time greatest sports emotional low and high squeezed into 3 hours. Even Larry David was smiling. Shame for Wemby and the refs.

That Towns second foul is an insane call. Wemby had multiple chances to get his arm out. Can't believe they changed that call. Totally changed the game with that one.

The first quarter of the Knicks vs. Spurs game was one of the most rigged things we've ever seen.
There were FIVE missed calls in favor of the Spurs and Wemby.
1) A clear foul on Wemby was reversed to give KAT his second foul of the game.

There’s no shortage of conferences in the digital media industry. This one is aces.
Yesterday, LUMA hosted our Digital Media Summit (DMS) event in midtown. We have been doing this event for over 15 years and yet every year feels fresh. We gathered over 400 of the industry's leadership for a full day of presentations, firesides, discussion forums on all the hot button topics and tons of valuable peer-to-peer networking. Conor and I presented our State of Digital presentation where we laid out our thinking on key developments in the sector (publishing soon), including the impacts of AI, outcomes and changing media consumption. The main stage featured sessions with @Google, @PublicisGroupe, @amazon, @perplexity_ai, @ZetaGlobal, @TheTradeDesk and @shivsingh. We even announced a deal (@PerionNetwork / Greenbids ) to kick the day off.
Thank you to all the great speakers, moderators, discussion forum speakers, participants, sponsors and partners. It takes a lot of work to put on a first class event like DMS and our extended team at LUMA crushed it.
Many key takeaways from the day but the overarching headline is that AI will fundamentally change the game. We're in for one hell of a ride!
