So I wrote a tutorial on dimension reductions in #rstats. It has actually turned out to be fairly comprehensive. It uses a fun example dataset on cereals (🎉 - not looking for at iris) I would love some feedback: rpubs.com/Saskia/520216
Awesome people doing awesome work together.

Just seeing this today. I won’t get my signed Advanced #rstats 📖 today so I guess I now have to attend @useR2020stl now 🤷♂️
Today is our last day at @UseR2019_Conf sadly. Please stop by to take advantage of our book savings and browse the latest titles. @CRCPress @CRC_MathStats

Authentification and authorization 🔐 using #rstats at @UseR2019_Conf, by Friedrike Preu
High-dimensionality is a recurring nightmare of mine. But this morning at @UseR2019_Conf, we got a nice tutorial by @visnut on how to visualize high-dim data!
Below is an historical depiction of me beating the curse of dimensionality, circa 2019 (colorized)
Tidyverse Dev Day is a wonderful moment to learn about #rstats 📦,
thanks to everybody giving us a hand with how to get started contributing!
@UseR2019_Conf really got everything, from 🦄 to 💻 and 🍺 ☕️ 🧁
On my way to @UseR2019_Conf for my first useR conference: excited is an understatement! With so many awesome #rstats talks, choosing which sessions to attend will be the hardest thing.
Anyway, it’s adventuRe time! #chocolatine

tbh, extracting knowledge from science papers remains a formidable challenge for most scientists too.
Extracting knowledge from science papers remains a formidable challenge for #AI. But V Tshitoyan @BerkeleyLab et al used unsupervised, deep neural net w/ embeddings instead of #NLP to show a promising path @cedergroup @Nature

I understand there's good reason to be careful w paper deadline times, e.g. not to subject researchers w. families to family time v. paper sprint crises. But for purely logistical matters, e.g., paper bidding, we should always adopt AoE time zone: one less thing to remember.
At @IaReims workshop, Philippe Mathieu (from @univ_lille) tells us how AI came to the rescue of Lord of the Rings and its huge battle scenes.
Gandalf did nothing, Helm’s Deep was saved by multi-agent systems! #NewSentence
I finally took the time to read this paper and, like the "Mythos of Model Interpretability", it's one of those articles that challenge and redefine your perception of the subject!
@zacharylipton is now definitely my spirit animal.

And that’s not even including all the deeply entrenched biases and inequalities that we can’t currently get rid off. So setting them in stone by putting them in a decision system is probably the worst solution.

A new thread about a series of papers in legitimate scientific journals, all from the same author.
These papers have all been peer-reviewed, but no editor or peer reviewer noticed a huge problem.
Warning: this might make your jaw drop.
Wanna know more about AI and its impact of society? I'll be at the @DeliriumVillage bar in @VilledeReims this evening to give a talk about how AI became what it is today! Check out this event pintofscience.fr/event/le-po… organized by @pintofscienceFR, and see you there!
I usually avoid anything non PhD-related but this is a new low, voted by 25 men. A small step for Alabama, a giant setback for gender equality.
