When so many communities around the country have been feeling helpless in their fight against the harms caused to them by #BigTech and careless real estate development projects, it was inspiring to see the Tucson community #RiseUp to protect their #Water #Electricty and #Climate
NEW: How did a community beat Jeff Bezos? When Amazon proposed a massive, water-guzzling data center out Tucson, community members organized and shut it down. Here's how they took on the multi-trillion dollar company, and won.

NEW: We brought @AOC to deep red Georgia to talk data centers. We found a data center rebellion, with people willing to radically shift their politics. One conservative voter said: "If there's a chance that anything can be done, I feel like she's gonna be the one to do it."

NEW: Big Tech claims AI data centers don’t use much water. But data centers typically report the water used inside the facilities — we found them indirectly consuming 10x that amount. We went to the drought-stricken West, where farmers now have to fight AI oligarchs for water.

In their video, El Paso Water CEO says Meta's large data center is "a drop in the bucket," adds just 0.4%, and "it's not a big deal." U.S. data centers (direct+indirect) estimated under 1% of national water use by 2030; agriculture ~40% of withdrawals. elpasomatters.org/2025/12/02/el-… blog.andymasley.com/p/the-ai-water… usgs.gov/water-science-…

UPDATE: Last month we reported on cuts to Social Security and the impacts of an office closure in Decorah, Iowa. Following our report, that office has now reopened. And SSA has posted several job openings at other small, rural offices that were in danger of closing.

This is what impact journalism looks like. Fantastic work by @danliebs and @pblest shining a light on the impact of Elon Musk's DOGE cuts in rural Iowa and helping to reopen closed Social Security offices.

EXCLUSIVE: @AOC calls for a congressional investigation into the impact of data centers. We took her to meet residents in a Trump +50 county in Georgia whose well water was polluted by Meta’s massive data center. “That absolutely merits...national congressional investigation."

Kevin O'Leary's massive data center was approved by a county commission in Utah last night. At 40,000 acres, it would be 2.5x the size of Manhattan. The commission approved the proposal despite opposition from hundreds of locals.

NEW: Corpus Christi, Texas could be the first American city to run out of water. Working people face drought restrictions, but oil and gas companies guzzle water — and pay less than everyone else. Six huge corporate water users consume 3x as much as everyone in town.

Manufactured home communities are being targeted by greedy landlords and Wall Street investors, leading to rising rents, deteriorating conditions, and displacement — with some residents even forced to choose between rent and medication. That’s why I introduced the PRO Manufactured Home Communities Act to fight back and give residents a fair shot.
NEW: Private equity's greed is squeezing mobile home residents living off of Social Security. Residents have had to skip their medication to deal with 125% rent increases. But a bill from Rep. Maxwell Frost could let residents buy their parks before Wall Street swoops in.
