This is probably the best fix to overhang, and it has the prospect of fixing a bunch of other issues with how Parliament operates.
I agree with the NZ Initiative here - we need to increase the size of Parliament. The number of electorate seats has grown over the years since MMP was introduced, but the overall size of Parliament has not been increased. Adding more list MPs will reduce the risk of an overhang.
I just discovered the UK Labour Party's theme song for the 1964 general election, which is to the tune of the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
They don't make election theme songs like this anymore!

The gendering of books is something that is heavily pushed on kids, but we are now apparently supposed to believe that it is biologically determined rather than the result of social conditioning - and that this is a leftist position. What the hell is wrong with Jacobin?

In September 2000, #NZ became the 17th state party to ratify the Rome Statute which established the International Criminal Court. This move enjoyed bipartisan support. Where is #NZ’s voice in support of the Court now? @IntlCrimCourt

A client who got a 13 week stand down because her boss regularly sexually harassed her and she resigned. Tried to stay and job hunt but couldn’t find work before giving up, resigning and going on jobseeker. I got mad at the case manager and reported him to higher ups.
Benefit rates are already below the poverty line. National wants to push beneficiaries - and their children - even further into poverty if they can't find a job within two years.
National is the party of more poverty and more cruelty to those who are worst off in our society.
If you can work, you should.
Welfare should be firm, fair and affordable. A safety net for Kiwis who need it, not a system that gets abused at taxpayers' expense.
Here’s National's 5 changes to Jobseeker this election:
1. Random drug testing.
2. Intensive support to get 30,000 long-term Jobseekers into work.
3. A lower payment rate after two years on the benefit.
4. Stand-down doubled to 26 weeks for people who repeatedly quit work without good reason.
5. Residency requirement raised from two years to five.
Firm where it needs to be, fair to everyone who pays for it. This isn’t about punishing someone because they haven't found a job. It’s about making sure people receiving Jobseeker Support meet reasonable expectations to be work ready, which also helps ensure it is fair to hardworking taxpayers who fund the system.
It’s part of National’s wider economic plan, which means 220,000 new jobs expected and debt coming down without no new taxes. A Labour coalition would squander surpluses, hike debt and hit Kiwis with nine new taxes to pay for its spending plans – and that would mean every household paying $2263 in extra tax every year.
Cutting foreign aid and pretending that it's wasteful is one of the nastiest policies National has come up with.
We already spend far less on foreign aid that the UN's target for developed countries.
Don't fund our health system by cutting money for the world's poorest people.
Your hard earned money has funded smart agriculture systems in the Caribbean, workshops with indigenous farmers in Patagonia, and livestock emissions equipment at universities in South Africa, while Kiwis at home wait for medicines.
Party Vote National to cut non-essential foreign aid and spend it on more cancer and life-saving medicines here at home.
How is the King Kemi Badenoch's boss? She isn't the Prime Minister. She leads the opposition to the King's government.
Kemi Badenoch quickfire round:
Andy Burnham or Sir Keir Starmer?
Neither, because they’re Labour.
The Celebrity Traitors or Avengers: Infinity War?
Avengers Infinity War. It’s a great, epic story. The heroes lose first, quite badly, and then there’s a sequel and they win.
Robert Jenrick or Suella Braverman?
Why do you keep offering me these? It’s like asking if I’d rather be shot or drowned.
Manchester or London?
London because that’s where I was born.
William the Conqueror or Harold II?
My boss is directly descended from William the Conqueror - His Majesty. I think I have to pick His Majesty’s actual ancestor rather than the defeated

I'm actually surprised that Trump being assasinated is underwater with Democrats. But perhaps there is a social desirability bias effect in answers to that question.
Replying to @StratPolitics
We polled five routes for Trump to leave office before the end of his term. A plurality of Dems support four of them, including a military coup and death by natural causes. The only one underwater, an assassination, is still supported by 29%.
I can only assume that this person would have been simultaneously supporting Hitler, FDR, Stanley Baldwin and Mackenzie King in the 1930s.
Zionists are now trying to have one of the world's leading humanitarian aid organisations, which provides medical care to people in conflicts and crises across the world, banned as terrorists. You couldn't make this stuff up.
Sorry Barry, but I'm not going to pay much attention to the political analysis of someone who thinks that Winston Peters is going to be the next Prime Minister
