Today marks 7 years since a fatal day in our nation’s history. Recently, I moved to Chard - a small market town in rural Somerset. As today is the anniversary of the referendum, I’m going to highlight 7 ways the European Union has contributed to this town of 13,000 🧵[1/9]

I have enormous respect for Andrew Boff. From defending Trans rights to backing fairer votes and the ECHR, he's a man of principle. A Conservative Party that can't accommodate lifelong Tories like him isn't worthy of its name. It's now just a second-rate Reform tribute act.

Imagine giving 53 years to your party, then being told you can't stand because you believe in human rights. The Tories have lost a decent man & a powerful voice for London. Yet again, Badenoch’s Conservatives are happy to chase Reform UK and exclude tolerant, liberal Londoners

If confirmed, this is telling: Russian data centres get hit, and online activity around AfD suddenly plummets. 📉 So much talk about German patriotism… then the connection from Russia goes down. 🤔🇷🇺

I think this is a serious mistake by Bryant. I have no particular affinity for the Orange Order. And I appreciate the history and sensitivities of the Drumcree dispute. But the Orangemen made the application in the correct way and secured a lawful determination to hold a much-scaled-back parade. Opponents, including the first minister, then blocked the road (and thereby the parade) unlawfully. And Bryant has given in to them. How is Bryant now going to convince unionists that the rule of law and constitutional politics still point the way forward for Northern Ireland? This has opened a huge can of worms.

I know people struggle with the notion of the rule of law applying to everyone equally, but it should. And as Justice Minister, it isn't virtue signaling to uphold the law: it's part of my job.

Congratulations once again, Prime Minister @andyburnham – this time, in person! Let us work closely together to ensure the security and defence of our continent. To help Ukraine prevail. To address illegal migration. And guarantee trustworthy AI. I’m looking forward to our Summit. With the right mix of ambition and focus, we can deliver a stronger 🇪🇺🇬🇧 partnership.

The Terminally Ill Adults Bill returning to the Commons this Friday is not only damaging to our shared understanding of the value of life, but it also places vulnerable people at risk. Read my article, as the Bill returns to Parliament: telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/09…

I have left the Conservatives and joined the @LibDems! 🔸 Proud to be part of this party, and I am excited to get to work with a great local team. The Lib Dem’s have big tent appeal and can be the home of the millions of politically homeless centrist, centre-left and centre-right voters that feel abandoned by a politics that chases to the extremes. It’s time to be part of a party with modern, innovative, pragmatic solutions to the real problems the British public face! @ALDC @YoungLiberalsUK @LibDems

Hampshire is on fire while the Conservatives keep pretending the climate crisis is someone else’s problem. You can’t attack net zero, dismiss climate action, and cheer on fossil fuels, then act shocked when extreme heat and wildfires hit home. bbc.co.uk/news/live/cmq56755…

It's rather ironic that within a week in Crewkerne the rail services have been cut due to implications of the climate emergency, and the Tories have selected a former neo-Nazi to stand. Two good reasons to retain net zero policies and the European Convention on Human Rights. – at Chard, England

As a follower of Christ, I believe in forgiveness. As a Yeovil LD member, I believe in a fair and tolerant society. Come what may with the Tory's selection in Crewkerne, we will do our utmost to ensure our experienced, liberal candidate wins to represent all who they serve. – at Chard, England

Badenoch throwing away a significant bunch of the good will that she was building up within the Jewish community, and for what? A council candidate that her party simply did not need to select? And why? Because he makes high-quality AI videos? Just utterly surreal.
Kemi Badenoch on @BBCr4today praising reformed neo Nazi Joshua Bonehill Paine for “working on anti-radicalisation, fighting for Jewish people, knowing the harm he caused, he did a lot of terrible things.” Unclear at this moment what full extent of this work is. Video of speech on JPB page on here was given to local Tory members in a pub.
