The army and its weapons belong to the Eritrean people—not to one man. The army is our people, and our people are the nation.
We must ask ourselves: Should Eritreans continue fighting and killing one another, or should we unite peacefully to demand the rule of law, the implementation of our Constitution, and the fundamental rights of every citizen?
Eritrea needs a peaceful transition of power—not more conflict between brothers and sisters.
Our struggle is not against one another. Our struggle is for justice, freedom, constitutional government, and a future in which every Eritrean can live with dignity.

25 years of silence. No trial. No transparent legal process. No confirmed proof that they are still alive.
The Eritrean16 have become a symbol of one of Eritrea’s most controversial and unresolved human-rights cases. Since the 2001 crackdown on independent media and political dissent, their fate has remained largely unknown.
Now, 188 writers, including Nobel laureates Olga Tokarczuk and J. M. Coetzee, are demanding answers.
The controversy goes beyond the fate of 16 individuals. It raises fundamental questions about freedom of expression, due process, political accountability, and what happens when people can disappear without a public trial or meaningful information about their whereabouts.
For their families and supporters, silence is not an answer.
Eritrea’s authorities should provide clear, verifiable information about the detainees’ status and ensure that fundamental legal rights are respected.
The international community should continue demanding transparency, accountability, and access to independent information.

A government can lock a person behind prison walls—but it cannot erase their name, their voice, or their place in history.
For 25 years, Eritrean journalists and former government officials have been held incommunicado. Their families have been denied the most basic answer:
Are they alive? Where are they?
No government should be allowed to make human beings disappear and expect the world to remain silent.
To the leaders of the world, the UN, human-rights organizations and the global media:
DO NOT LOOK AWAY.
DO NOT LET SILENCE BECOME COMPLICITY.
DO NOT LET 25 YEARS BECOME 26.
The names of the disappeared must remain louder than the walls of their prisons.
WE REMEMBER.
WE DEMAND ANSWERS.

Today, my heart is overflowing with joy. Yohannes Abraha, a.k.a. John Black, has been released from prison in the Netherlands after spending more than 500 days in detention.
I cannot fully express how happy I am to hear this news. For over two years, we fought on Twitter/X, demanding his release, raising our voices, and refusing to let his case fade into silence. We stood firm in our demand for his freedom.
Whether our collective efforts contributed to this outcome or not, one thing matters most to me today: JOHN IS FREE! And for that, I am genuinely, personally, and overwhelmingly happy.
