Why are there so many posts like this ignoring common sense? Cost to merchant WILL become cost to consumer - why are so many people pretending that's not the case? Breaking news… But don’t panic about UPI charges! 😄
There are reports about a 0.4% charge on certain UPI transactions above ₹2,000.
Many people may think:
if my bill is ₹3,000, do I have to pay another 0.4%? So ₹3,012?
No...That’s not how it works.
For example, if your shopping bill is ₹3,000, you still pay ₹3,000.
The 0.4% charge, where applicable, is a merchant-side charge (MDR). It is not an extra amount that the customer has to pay along with the bill.
So
₹3,000 bill → You pay ₹3,000.
₹12 charge if applicable Merchant pay
Also, this does not mean every UPI payment above ₹2,000 will automatically have a 0.4% charge. There are different rules and exemptions.
So don’t misunderstand the news and think UPI is suddenly going to cost customers extra money. 🙂

Someone in an adjacent team once told me that because leadership doesn't acknowledge pre-incident bugs that were fixed, some people resorted to storing these kind of information with them till the incident happened.
Once the incident happened, they would jump in, solve the incident in record time, and then get credited with solving a S1/S2 incident.
Next review cycle, they would either get promoted or get good ratings.
Not saying this is ethical or good for the team/company, but the entire perf review process needs to change if companies don't want these kinds of things to happen.

This is the arrogance with which govt officials treat tax-paying citizens.
Even for the smallest govt service, citizens are forced to tolerate such incompetence & corruption.
These babus have no fear of action, because they know the system protects them.
