The Varendra region of Bengal badly needs development so there is nothing retarded here in the decision. Kalyani already has an AIIMS & Raiganj has good connectivity to North Bengal which is the target for this AIIMS. Not to mention many infra projects to support are underway.

I personally feel that a separate NJP division should be created with Bengal part, or they should merge Malda-NJP line into Malda division, keeping only Bihar part in Katihar division.
Only this will ensure proper justice and originating trains from Katihar or Jogbani.
Why is Katihar, the largest junction on the National Highway Railway, neglected? Revenues run into crores, yet facilities and trains receive only "stepmotherly" treatment.
