Not understanding the basics of AI - the most important technology of our lifetime - should be disqualifying for a U.S. Senator. This is why we need a new generation of leadership. The future is now.

Insane statistic on that chart. Can’t read but live in the USA? Don’t worry, you’ll earn the same as the average British worker. That should scare everyone.
The standard explanation for Britain’s declining graduate wage premium is that higher education expanded too fast and too far. But similar expansions elsewhere have not produced the same outcome, writes John Burn-Murdoch. ft.trib.al/RvpW1Vg

Boom will be offering a prize—$50k cash and $50k in Boom stock—for the first amateur-built RC airplane to exceed Mach 1.
Since February, I've designed and built the world's fastest RC airplane in my college dorm, and that’s not clickbait. Reaper has a 5kg carbon-fiber frame, 250N turbojet, and flies at 500mph. New to X and will be going through the whole build here in the coming days. #aerospace

There is no reason why we cannot have air conditioning in the U.K. Especially in new builds. Anyone who says otherwise is simply lying to you.

Read this thread. Every word. And then read it again, because you will not believe it can be true. But it is. Every word. @DavidLammy and @sarahsackman want to remove the right to jury trial in cases involving *death*. Homicide cases.
Hello, there 👋 Have you heard David Lammy MP and Sarah Sackman MP talking about people stealing bottles of whisky and swiping mobile telephones as examples of people who should not get jury trials? Well. I’d like to tell you a story. 🪡 🧵

The campaign is moving fast. Experts have reached out to us to anonymise the data for further release. Two groups have offered to build dashboards from available material, combined with whole new sets of crowdsourced data. MPs are pushing to release the records. Right now, the Government only lets you see heavily curated, disclosure-controlled statistics. And even these figures are limited because they exclude self-employment income, pool earnings across two tax years, and do not adjust for prior attainment. It's time to change that. The Government should not listen to those in the sector who think LEO data is a "poor measure of value", when a generation were promised a £100,000 lifetime bonus. Students & parents deserve the facts, not partial truths propagated by various narratives. It's time to be honest. Release the Records.

The BIGGEST change to nuclear regulation in the history of this country. Government was set to bottle it. YOU pushed for it, you tweeted, you shared videos, you signed letters and you didn't let up. Govt gave in. They accepted these RADICAL CHANGES. Now we hold them to it.

This is a mistake. If you care about decarbonisation, you should above all care about cheap electricity. Even if the electricity comes with carbon emissions. Petrol-powered transport and gas-powered home heating account for ~47% of the country’s CO2 emissions. All the electricity we use combined only counts for 11*%. The CO2 emissions of electricity generation are a sideshow. Getting people to shift to heat pumps and electric vehicles is vastly more of a priority – which will only happen if those are genuinely better than the fossil fuel-based alternatives. This is why Clean Power 2030 is so misguided. Even on its own terms, it is likely *harmful* to decarbonisation, because it is driving the price of electricity up. So is this, which maintains huge subsidies, paid by electricity consumers, for renewables generating worthless energy that nobody can use.

New blog post! In order to reduce the burden on taxpayers, improve the public finances, and boost growth the State Pension Triple Lock should be scrapped. It should increase in line with average earnings growth only. Link in next post.

Combinatorics. There are infinitely more configurations of something than of nothing, so any uniform sample over the set of possible of ontologies will yield something with probability 1. Real question: why should nature sample uniformly over the set of possible ontologies?
Why is there something rather than nothing?

I’m sorry Alex, but I’m afraid I can’t do that.
Alarm: ChatGPT by @OpenAI now *expressly prohibits arguments for fossil fuels*. (It used to offer them.) Not only that, it excludes nuclear energy from its counter-suggestions. @sama, what is the reason for this policy?

The current system of journals and peer review is not serving science. I have therefore resigned from all editorial roles and will no longer do pre-publication peer review. I explain why in this article and in the thread below. Please consider joining me. neural-reckoning.org/reviewi…
