Looking forward to this keynote and discussion on the growing impacts of gendered impacts of climate stress on women this morning. Thank you for all, especially @aisha4climate for keeping this conversation alive and engaging all stakeholders in the stark realities of inequality as Pakistan heats up higher every year. It is women who face the lived experience of this #scarcitycentury. Water, food, income and social deficits keep women burdened with mounting responsibilities in communities struggling with resilience risks. The coming years will be even harder as the @UN warns the world of an extreme El Niño which will “pour fuel on the fire of a warming world”. Recognising the women in communities who overcome all such odds is crucial to the fight for resources and agency that make resilience possible.

Empowering women strengthens families and communities. In the 2022 floods, about 650,000 pregnant women were displaced, and many gave birth in difficult conditions. Still, women showed courage, leadership, and resilience, creating new examples of hope and recovery.

Environmental disasters force women into decisions beyond their control. They face storms, displacement, insecurity, exploitation, and long-term social impacts. This affects their lives, children, and communities, while support turns them into strong agents of recovery and resilience
