Participation, facts, transparency, accountability, separation of media and state and freedom of political association and speech are the bedrock of democracy.
Truth is subjective.
Which is why misinformation and disinformation are so corrosive. They undermine shared understandings and create divisions between groups who cannot even discuss an issue on the same basis, let alone agree, or agree to disagree.
It creates two alternate realities.
Which is what Musk is encouraging and profiting from.
Not all speech is free. Hate speech has a price.
Propaganda, which is non-truth framed as ‘free speech’, kills.
In recent days, hate speech, misinformation and propaganda, purposely false information to demonise particular groups including through this platform and shared by Musk, encouraged and fuelled racist riots in the UK.
Free? For whom?
It wasn’t free for the refugees almost burnt alive in their hotel, for the people pulled from cars, bashed, threatened. Neither was it free for those caught up in the misdirected rage and now having to take responsibility for their actions.
Free for Musk, yes.
The rest of us?
Dangerous, divisive and deadly.
We need to find a way to have access to shared facts, be able to freely discuss them and draw our own conclusions without demonisation of groups, the proliferation of hatred and misinformation that destroys our ability to make shared and sound decisions about humanity and the planet.

The LNP spent an unprecedented $21 BILLION on consultants in their last year, ... = 54,000 FTE... and what else did the LNP achieve? FA and left us with $1.2 TRILLION in debt....
The LNP couldn't manage a chook raffle... and they expect us to believe they can manage a nuclear program... The LNP should be renamed "We of the NEVER NEVER"
