Starting the day with a powerful @IllustrateMath lesson in fifth grade. Ss are demonstrating a deep understanding of the concept and making meaning through their conversations. #KellerJourney

Me: Fielding student responses and explanations about which one doesn’t belong. Student, blurting, suddenly thunderstruck: “They all belong because they all represent the same thing!” The rest of the class: *collective gasp of realization, excited chatter* I love to see it.

This thread is a lovely reminder to create space for play and wonder in school and in life.❤️
I’m in a Gr 4 classroom, 15 min left in the school day. The T suggests we play a super quick game. I was going to suggest Number Boxes, but it would take a few min to explain the rules. The teacher had a better suggestion: “take out a whiteboard and a marker. Drawing contest!”

I love these pictures so much. I can “see” the communication happening. When students are part of a community that cultivates productive discourse, even multi-digit division problems can be the focus of interesting and mathematically rich conversations.
My students are productive collaborators, effective communicators, but best of all Math lovers! Seeing my students cheer with excitement because it’s Math time, makes the day so rewarding! 💚 @jcpsK5math #ilovemystudents #mathematicians

I really enjoyed collaborating with @Pierre_Tranche on this landscape a few years ago. It shows our rough draft thoughts about the journey towards collaboration. Curious to hear other thoughts and ideas.
Here is our rough draft thinking around a landscape inspired by Cathy Fosnot's learning landscapes. Ovals are "big ideas", rectangles are teacher "actions" or "activities" and the speach bubbles are "comments" or "talk" between teachers. docs.google.com/drawings/d/1…
