FYI, talking about Brexit yesterday, Angela Rayner claimed that...
“The evidence is really clear in terms of 20% down in exports to the EU, 16,000 businesses no longer exporting to the EU, it has been the red tape on the EU deal we got, has been damaging to the economy”.
But if this is indeed the evidence, it really is not clear!
Let's unpick it... 🧵

When you see headlines about the soaring "cost" of pensions income tax relief (which you might, I suspect, as new data is out), be aware that this is just the mechanical flipside of more and more people being "fiscally dragged" into higher income tax bands.

The wind industry has never had an exit plan.
Global wind capacity passed 1,299 gigawatts last year, across 138 countries. The first turbines from the 1990s and early 2000s are already coming down. Nobody legislated for what happens next.
The build side has its own unpriced cost. Bigger turbines increasingly run on rare earth magnets, and most of the world's rare earth processing runs through Baotou, China. The tailings dam there has no waterproof liner, is now too big to retrofit one, and leaches thorium and heavy metals into groundwater every rainy season. Farmers nearby report dying crops and livestock. Reported local cancer rates have been put as high as 70 times the national average. None of that shows up in a turbine's operating emissions, and it doesn't stop once the blade ships.
Blades are the problem. They're built from composite specifically engineered to survive two decades of hurricane-force stress. That toughness is exactly why they don't recycle. One US landfill in Wyoming has buried over 1,100 of them since 2019, each one sawn into three pieces and stacked up to 30 feet deep. NREL's own modelling says that without a change in policy or tech, up to 78% of decommissioned blades will end up landfilled.
Globally we're heading for something like 40 million tonnes of blade waste by 2050. Europe only agreed a voluntary landfill ban this January, and it still isn't law. Most US states allow it outright. Most other wind markets have no blade-specific rule at all.
Underground, standard practice removes the top metre of a foundation and leaves the rest, often hundreds of tonnes of concrete and steel, buried forever.
To be clear though, this isn't an argument against wind power.
It's an argument that governments spent two decades approving the exciting part, the part that got them pats on the back and won the approval of the certain groups, and left the ending for someone else to figure out.
That bill is arriving now, and there still isn't a proper plan for most of it.
Foresight was cheap in 2005. It's expensive now.

Mi aggredisci. Mi difendo. E dovrei risarcirti io?

For two years, parents, schools and campaigners have been accused of "scaremongering".
For two years, @bphillipsonMP has responded to concerns by saying she "does not accept" the evidence.
Today we publish a report comparing what Ministers said would happen with what has actually happened.
The evidence is not "chatter".
It is official Government data.

Due to the Sentencing Act 2026, Arshid Hussain – the man who abducted and raped me as a child, and who did the same to dozens of other children – is being considered for early release. He was sentenced to 35 years in prison in early 2017 and was described as one of the most dangerous men in the UK. He was later convicted of further offences.
His brother, Basharat Hussain, is also being considered for release.
I honestly can’t put into words how disgusted I am with the British government.

If Britain’s two-tier justice system still has the capacity to correct itself (which isn’t clear to me at all at this stage), then history may ultimately judge the rape gangs scandal by Muslims in the UK as larger than both Epstein and the Boston Globe Spotlight investigation that exposed the Catholic Church’s systemic child abuse cover-up — combined.

Very interesting transaction by Sandfire in the KCB.
They are paying $3M to acquire two licences on the edge of MMG's Zone 5 corridor.
- There has been very little work done on those licences held by junior Galileo (some geochem and limited drilling with traces of Copper). This is setting a new floor for licence M&A in the area and further highlights that the sweet spot of the KCB is near Zone 5.
- Sandfire is hunting in MMG's territory (unexpected !). This is going to rattle MMG's cage as #ARCM and $LVX hold attractive ground with a proactive exploration campaign.
Maps for context below (Galileo licences & Arc licences).
Watch that space this year !
