Childcare is not simply a matter for parents and kids. Not having it available costs all of us. Join me at chrisoates.org to help get this done.
Looking to talk to comms people in #mapoli about building a new (and completely free!) service to make sharing and getting press releases visibility easier. DMs are open or reply here with folks with expertise on it. Aim is to recreate a bit of the old school Twitter utility.
This week we take a look at what came out of the mid-year economic roundup. It's one of the dryest hearings you'll ever read, but it's vital to understanding what's happening.
Also, I learned that on Beacon Hill, the One Big Beautiful Bill is "OB3"

The title of this week's roundup of State House hearings is designed solely to get into @katielannan's #mapoliwithanimals thread

New for Connecticut politicos: We turned cosponsorships of legislation at the General Assembly into a network map to find who's close to whom.
Some nuggets:
- @CraigFishbein is the most central
- @BergerGirvaloCT most frequent connector between distant reps

We're looking to see what bill co-sponsorships can tell us about politics in North Carolina. For example, @JohnTorbett is the most "central" in the House and @friendsforbatch is the most central in the Senate.
You can also see how much each legislator co-sponsors with each other and the full data here.

Starting a multi-part project assessing the initial election explanations from the New York Times for all presidential elections from 1852 to 2024. Part 1 is here, covering 2000 to 2024, with a surprising worst take (spoiler: it was 2012). hallsofpower.substack.com/p/…
For the #mapoli crowd, we're rounding up what Legislata has collected over the past week. It's not another newsletter full of hot takes, but a briefer of the events, reports, and transcripts you may want to check out. open.substack.com/pub/massac…
With the @BOSCityCouncil meeting just wrapped up, we have a flash transcript available, thanks to the @bospolicyinst. Lots of interest in getting into the details of this proposal

So the real October surprise is @mikeduncan dropping an entirely new podcast?!
For those interested in @RankedChoiceBos , @Legislata has the transcript up for the City Council hearing yesterday, courtesy of @bospolicyinst. Here's how @Ruthzee opened the hearing.
You can view it for free or sign up to set keyword alerts, search through old transcripts, or access all other #mapoli content at app.legislata.com/login
I opened up the latest Boston City Council transcript and found a discussion of the local skunk population. Perhaps the best example that local government is not a glamorous profession at all times #bospoli
Really don’t like @PlayStation charging for an annual PlayStation plus subscription with no emails warning renewal is approaching. That’s $87 I’ve just wasted I’d rather have back
In the (admittedly very unlikely) event that the FL, TX, MT, and WV Senate races see party flips, next year Democrats would have a 51-49 Senate majority while representing nearly double the population, by the measurement of each senator gets half the state population
