I've criticised Sundaresan's handling of that kebab joint interview myself in the past, but I see now that enough time has passed that people have forgotten to primarily blame Sarfaraz himself for that fiasco. No one forced him to discuss the dressing room with a journalist.

And regardless of what you may think of Gambhir's quality as a coach, it certainly isn't unreasonable for him to not want a player who leaks to the press in his dressing room if it can be avoided.

How do they keep forgetting he's a terrible fit for the first 14 overs of the innings? It's inexplicable. This will be like the 4th time this song and dance has been repeated. The Indian white ball setup has become a Kakistocracy under Gambhir.
Tilak Varma has played 67 T20s since 2025 began. He has an Avg of 36 with a 138 SR over that sample. Ind management have on multiple occasions had to demote him down the order to justify his continued selection. Now that he's keeping Vaibhav out I don't see how this is tenable.

Good change. As I understand it it eliminates those cases where a keeper or bowler lost control of the ball while attempting to take the bails off but technically still was touching it. Those were stupid. You should actually have to execute the action.
🚨 JUST IN 🚨 For a run-out or stumping, the fielder must have complete control of the ball. Merely touching it with the hand as it breaks the stumps is not enough.

After 68 innings Shubman Gill is still flirting closely with having made at least 50 in half of his innings.

Stop reading grifter AI slop, read this excellent original analysis by Harigovind, who is one of the best writers in cricket. What's special about a required rate of 12? It makes batters curtail their attacking rates. Read on: kohliandkipling.substack.com…

Notable moment in cricket history is the BCCI failing to move Jaiswal and Gill to bigger franchises in 2024 when it was clear they would be the future stars of the longer format teams and the consequences that may have for the looming franchise vs international power struggle.
Replying to @abhaysingh_13
Jaiswal hasn't achieved anything in the last 1 year but these so called experts will praise only types of Gill, Jaiswal . Ruturaj is best batter in recent time in this format.

This careless failure to position themselves for the future may end up being critically consequential not just for Indian cricket but for the sport as a whole. Kohli as a larger than life figure provided a strong current for the longer formats to swim with.

I suppose it's not too late to make Jaiswal to MI and Gill to RCB happen, but if they didn't see the importance of this brand management then it's not clear that they will now even as time is running out.

What an incredible shame for Indian cricket to have such venal politics pervade the quest for the World Cup trophy. I would say if anything Agarkar's mistake was not nipping this Rohit Jaiswal situation in the bud earlier after the Champions Trophy when Rohit had less leverage.
Finally a piece that lays out very clearly what was obvious.

Seems like a lot of skirting around the real reason they're moving on from Agarkar. Don't think it's that hard to connect the dots of wanting to move on from Rohit in ODIs, the meeting being leaked mid series, and then reports of him appealing to BCCI higher ups.

Being honest, I don't really have a theory of mind for people still being interested in watching this India T20 side without Vaibhav play. What is the intrigue? Are they better than Afghanistan? You know that already. How good are these players in India? You know that already.

They've played 32 internationals in the past 12 months, mostly in India, as well as a 17 round IPL. There couldn't be any less to see here and I reached my limit long ago. How far can they go until the average TV viewer hits their saturation point? They're determined to find out

India are currently employing their best ever Test batting lineup. It's not even close. They're a world class no.3 away from being the best batting lineup of all time collectively.

There are 7 Test bats in the world who are clearly excellent Vs both spin and pace and 4 of them are Indians under the age of 30. Smith, Root, Kamindu, Gill, Jaiswal, Pant, Jurel. KL is world class Vs pace which as an opener is enough.

I think people have somewhat misunderstood Vaibhav's T20 performance as a result of a general cricketing talent advantage. In reality I think it's largely that he has extremely favourable biomechanics to leverage power easily on 6 attempts. This doesn't really transfer to Tests.
Complete mug Vs movement. Lot of work to be done. Good news is there's a lot of time to do it. There were people calling for/predicting him to be included in the Test set up within 2 years because Talent™️. Was never on.

The question that must be asked is whether it's actually worth making this happen. Not allowing Vaibhav to specialise in white ball is a big decision that is seemingly being made with little gravity.

There are technical incompatibilities between maximised hitting and real batting and it's a big decision to spread a teenager thin over those 2 extremes. Of course people will argue that broader experiences will only improve his game even in narrower contexts but I'm not so sure
