Kalaignar Karunanidhi’s family life was never a secret. Dayalu Ammal and Rajathi Ammal stood by him, cared for him and maintained a cordial relationship. Their personal choices deserve respect.
Legally, bigamy is a non-cognizable offence, ordinarily requiring a complaint from an aggrieved party. It is not a matter for police to initiate proceedings on their own.
Now compare Vijay. His own wife, Mdm.Sangeetha, approached the Chengalpattu court seeking divorce, alleging adultery, mental cruelty and desertion. She claimed that the extramarital relationship continued despite assurances that it would end, causing her emotional suffering, humiliation and a betrayal of marital trust.
Although Sangeetha subsequently withdrew her petition, these were serious allegations raised by his own wife, not political opponents. The cruelty to her continues even today.
Before questioning Karunanidhi’s family life, ask why Mdm.Sangeetha felt compelled to approach the court in the first place.
Selective moral outrage is not morality. It is hypocrisy.
Hind sight is vision 20/ 20. If they had arrested him and he won over a sympathy wave, many would hav blamed @arivalayam for being hasty and short sighted. Him winning with SIR and EVM was a given
