Does hardware crash for a year due to power constraints?
Business Insider confirms it: Amazon has warehouses of GPUs that can’t be installed, and is buying them so far in advance that a supply chain team said they “didn’t have a clear forecasted path” to installing them. businessinsider.com/amazon-2…

New: Accenture has told employees it will only fund $29 per month of Claude use. Meaning that employees who often spend as much as $1,000 a month are now scrambling to find ways to keep access to the tool. A sign of the continuing crack down of AI 404media.co/accenture-tells-…

BREAKING: 🇫🇷 A major cyberattack has hit supermarket refrigeration systems across France, reportedly causing fresh and frozen food to spoil after hackers remotely manipulated temperature controls. According to BFMTV, the attack began overnight from Sunday into Monday, targeting older versions of refrigeration-control software supplied by Danish company Danfoss. The attackers allegedly exploited the systems’ defrosting function, forcing refrigeration equipment to heat continuously instead of keeping products cold. Temperatures were reportedly set as high as 50°C, destroying entire stocks of food within hours. Several major supermarket chains have been affected, including Intermarché, Super U and E.Leclerc. Metro stores and independent businesses, including butcher shops also have been impacted. Around 150 Intermarché stores are reportedly affected, according to industry sources cited by BFMTV. The full number of affected locations remains unclear. The financial damage is already significant. In Haguenau, Alsace, an Intermarché store reportedly lost its entire frozen-food stock, worth approximately €50,000. A nearby Super U allegedly had to discard both fresh and frozen products, with losses estimated at €220,000. An E.Leclerc store in the same town was also affected, although its losses had not yet been calculated. The combined losses reported at the Intermarché and Super U stores in Haguenau alone amount to around €270,000. Nationwide damage could reach several million euros. Intermarché reportedly confirmed the incident in an internal communication, warning that several stores had suffered losses of frozen products. Coopérative U also acknowledged the attack and established crisis teams to assist affected stores and coordinate with refrigeration specialists. Technical investigations are ongoing, and the full extent of the damage has yet to be established. Authorities and companies are still working to determine the full circumstances of the attack. The identity of the perpetrators has not been confirmed.

🚨☣️More details on the Oct 1st pneumonic plague outbreak in Siberia, after a lab accident at a BSL-3 lab. "FSB units accompanying ambulances transporting people who had been in contact with [lab tech] Shipilova for medical examination," as per local news. This is significant. FSB is Russia's domestic security / counterintelligence service, tasked w/implementing the national security of Russia." (Its predecessor was the KGB). This suggests quarantine was not voluntary. It also means Russian authorities are treating the lab accident and plague outbreak as a national security issue, involving a lot more than routine public health.

The pace of change is accelerating
China built an AI that works like a human brain and it's 100x faster than current LLMs while using 97% less energy. It’s called SpikingBrain, a family of brain-inspired large models that completely re-engineers how AI processes information. Instead of burning endless energy on continuous matrix multiplications like traditional Transformers, SpikingBrain uses adaptive spiking neurons. It mimics actual biological firing patterns. Neurons only activate when triggered by specific events, meaning the model achieves a staggering ~69% sparsity at the micro level. It doesn't waste compute on silence. It only thinks when it needs to. And results change the game for long-context processing: • Achieves over a 100× speedup in Time to First Token (TTFT) for massive 4M-token sequences. • Matches performance with advanced open-source Transformer baselines while using a fraction of the data. • Built to run and scale stably on non-NVIDIA hardware clusters (like MetaX chips), completely bypassing Western hardware dependency. We spent years trying to brute-force bigger AI models by throwing more electricity and silicon at them. Nature figured out how to do it efficiently millions of years ago.
