Instagram removed our page with almost 150k followers with no way to appeal the takedown. Tens of millions of people who viewed our content every month have been cut off from one of the few alternative media outlets with reporters and sources in Palestine, Lebanon, China, Cuba, and beyond. This is not an isolated incident. We see it as part of an escalating pattern of information warfare by big tech monopolies, deeply intertwined with the ruling elite — and a concerning rise in censorship targeting alternative media, directed by Washington and Brussels. We are working hard to restore access to our millions of monthly viewers. In the meantime, tell your friends and comrades to join us on Telegram @comrawire.

[ NEW ] Gunfire and explosions heard at Niamey airport in Niger. Unknown assailants opened fire at the entrance of the International Airport this morning, with residents reporting sustained exchanges lasting more than an hour, including heavy weapons. Security forces cordoned off the perimeter. Niger's military authorities have issued no official statement. The same facility was struck in late January, in an assault later claimed by the Islamic State that targeted the airport and its adjacent military base for several hours. Niger has repeatedly accused France, whose forces it expelled after the July 2023 coup, of direct collusion with the armed groups now operating across the Sahel.

The Trump administration has escalated US airstrikes in Somalia to their highest recorded level, new data shows. Eight children were killed in Jamaame on Nov. 15, 2025, as they walked home from school. The escalation was enabled by a directive signed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in February 2025, which removed the White House sign-off previously required before any strike in Somalia. Kill authority passed directly to Africom generals. Trump has called Somalis "stupid," "low IQ" and citizens of a "crooked country." 17 days after the Jamaame killings, he declared Somali immigrants unfit for US residency.

France is looking to negotiate a new arms partnership with the UAE, as the country stands accused of being the main sponsor of genocide in Sudan. French Defence Minister Catherine Vautrin held talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan over co-development of the Rafale F5, France's next combat aircraft. The UAE already operates Rafale jets but a new deal is seeking to help fund the new model in exchange for production contracts. The UAE has armed Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) with weapons, financing and mercenaries since Sudan's war began in April 2023. The RSF has carried out mass killings and rape in Darfur. A UN fact-finding mission ruled in February 2026 that the attacks bore the hallmarks of genocide.

More than 1,000 Sudanese civilians killed by drone strikes in the first five months of 2026. Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, told the Human Rights Council in Geneva today. G7 foreign ministers were meeting in the same city. Both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) deployed explosive-laden drones against hospitals, displacement camps, markets, and dams. Conflict monitoring group ACLED recorded a 600% rise in drone-related civilian deaths over the past two years. Nearly 34 million people, close to two in every three Sudanese, require humanitarian assistance. The UN describes rape and sexual violence across the country as "rampant."

Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore was seen unconscious after reports of police firing teargas at close range at a protest in Abuja today. The activist was taken to hospital and his condition remains unconfirmed. The march, called by a coalition of trade unions, civil society groups and activist organizations, demanded the release of dozens of schoolchildren abducted from schools in Borno and Oyo states on May 15, and an end to deepening economic hardship under Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu. Witnesses said police fired a second round of gas while Sowore was receiving assistance. As the gas was fired, Tinubu delivered his Democracy Day address, telling Nigerians to "criticise me, disagree with me."

The Somali referee banned from entering the US for the World Cup received a hero’s welcome in his hometown. The US has barred Africa's top referee from the World Cup it is hosting this month. Omar Artan, named the continent's best referee in 2025, was denied entry and will miss the tournament. Crowds filled Mogadishu Stadium to welcome Artan home, holding his photograph as he arrived. Aged 34, he won the 2025 CAF Men's Referee of the Year award for his work in the Champions League and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Washington cited "vetting concerns" as Somalia sits on a US travel ban list. Trump has called Somalia "filthy, dirty, disgusting, ridden with crime." Artan is not the only one shut out. Iran's football federation president Mehdi Taj and much of the team's support staff were also refused visas, forcing the squad to base across the border in Tijuana, Mexico.
