"Is iomaí gradam buaite ag cláracha Gaeilge BBC Thuaisceart Éireann. Bíodh an soláthar acmhainní gann dó ach tá foireann bheag ardchumais ina bhun. Ba bheag an t-aitheantas a fuair an t-éacht sin nuair a d’fhógair ceannasaí an BBC i mBéal Feirste ciorruithe foirne an tseachtain seo caite." "Tá trí phost as cúig cinn á gcur ar ceal – sin 60% den fhoireann. Plean é a scriosfaidh an t-aonad agus atá as miosúr leis an ráta iomarcaíochta san iomlán atá á iarraidh." tuairisc.ie/udar-imni-e-an-s…

Rún rite sa Tionól inniu sa Tionól ó thuaidh ag éileamh go gcuirfí deireadh leis an geobhlocáil ó thuaidh ar sheirbhísí RTÉ agus TG4 sna sé chontae. Leanfaidh muid ar aghaidh ag cur brú ar an dá Rialtas, ar RTÉ agus ar TG4, chun soláthar cothrom Gaeilge a chur ar fáil d'achan duine ar an oileán seo, gan chamadh gan chlaonadh, mar atá luaite i gComhaontú Aoine an Chéasta. Motion passed with cross-party backing in @niassembly this evening calling for an end to geo-blocking of RTÉ and TG4 services in the north. Conradh na Gaeilge will continue to lobby to ensure Irish language content and programmes are available equally right across Ireland, in line with the 'resolute action' for TG4 and Irish language Broadcasting set out in the Good Friday Agreement. Buíochas le gach duine a thacaigh leis an rún, a labhair ar son an rúin agus le @GildernewColm as an rún a chur chun cinn.

Disgraceful. Dochreidte. And we all know the eye-watering sums spent on some very questionable programming.
Replying to @CnaG
NEWS RELEASE Friday 16 October 2026 BBC Irish Language Unit ‘decimated’ as 60% of Irish language staff to lose jobs Conradh na Gaeilge has reacted to news that BBC will be cutting 60 % of the full-time roles within the BBC Irish Language team. It is understood staff were informed of the cuts on Thursday (15th October 2026) via a Microsoft Teams presentation. Conradh na Gaeilge has called the cuts entirely “disproportionate” in comparison to other units, teams and departments within the BBC, identifying the "devastating impact” they will have on the BBC live Irish language programmes. The cuts will most likely mean live (and award-winning) BBC Radio Ulster Irish language programmes such as Blas will come to an end. President of Conradh na Gaeilge, Ciarán Mac Giolla Bhéin, commented: “We understand that of the 5 full-time jobs in the BBC’s Irish Language team, 3 of those are being cut. That is a 60% cut to the Irish language workforce. At a time where the Irish language is going through phenomenal growth across society, between Irish Medium Education, adult classes, families using Irish in the home, it is difficult to comprehend any logic or rationale to cut 60% of the BBCs Irish language team whilst the Irish language audience is growing and expecting increased provision. Those levels of cuts, to what is an award-winning broadcast team within the BBC’s Irish Language Unit, will be devastating to the Irish language in broadcasting here in the north, and seem to be entirely disproportionate to the cuts taking place elsewhere within the BBC. We cannot imagine any other sector, team or unit is facing a 60% staffing cut.” “As things sat prior to these cuts, the Irish language was already the poor cousin in the context of BBC’s provision for our indigenous languages. In Wales, there are 2 bespoke Welsh language radio stations, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Cymru 2, broadcasting around 200 combined hours per week, with an annual budget of £12.8m. In Scotland, BBC Radio nan Gàidheal broadcasts for at least 90 hours a week and has an annual budget of £3.7m. Here, there is no Irish language BBC station. None. We get around 30mins a day, or around 5 hours a week on BBC Radio Ulster. And now BBC are cutting 60% of the team providing that already limited service. Those who have made these cuts should be ashamed. The Irish language team’s expertise and experience should all be protected and indeed increased to allow them to address the growing needs of the Irish language community and those with an interest in the language here.” “The BBC, however, seems to be becoming an increasingly hostile space for the Irish language. They have no Irish language corporate policy. They have no dual-language signage on their premises. They have an embarrassingly small library of content for young people and families. They have no Irish language Radio station. And now they are disproportionately targeting Irish language jobs and reducing an already reduced team. BBCNI will only have 2 Irish language staff amongst their 650 workforce. Live Irish language output will be decimated as a result of these cuts.” “We would remind the BBC, and in particular the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, of their duties under the Good Friday Agreement, namely to take “resolute action to promote the Irish language” with bespoke reference to the relative British authorities regarding broadcasting. We believe these devastating cuts must be raised within the Executive, with the Secretary of State and directly with Culture, Media and Sport Minister Lisa Nandy MP, with the Irish Government, and ultimately with BBC Director Adam Smyth.”

“The BBC must demonstrate a clear commitment to the future of Irish language broadcasting & ensure BBC Gaeilge has the resources & staffing needed to deliver for audiences across the north.” …Ní mór tiomantas soiléir do thodhchaí na craoltóireachta Gaeilge a léiriú ag an BBC.

A significant development for the A5 project. The Court of Appeal has overturned the previous decision which had prevented work from commencing on the scheme. This is a welcome and important step forward in the long-running process towards the delivery of this vital infrastructure project.

The @DgnClarkeGFC have one of the finest facilities and clubs in the country, put there by the efforts of so many including the late great Paul Doris who devoted his life to his family, the GAA, to @TyroneGAALive and to the Clarkes. At the championship game last night the club paid a fitting tribute to one of their most famous sons. Fíor Gael agus Laoch.

Tyrone is greatly diminished by the death, after a long and so effective life, of Paul Doris, another core member of that stellar band of GAA people who came together here over half a century ago and who subsequently developed and led Tyrone GAA to unprecedented heights. Paul’s GAA contribution was simply inspirational, both at Club level with Drumragh Sarsfields and Dungannon Thomas Clarkes, and at County level with Tyrone. He served as Tyrone County Chair and County Treasurer, and among much else energised a host of GAA committees, developed refereeing, and helped manage Tyrone teams. Beyond Tyrone he was a low profile but highly effective volunteer at Ulster and National levels, bringing dignity, decency and propriety to everything he did. His 2011 Gradam an Uachtaráin | President’s Award only hints at his GAA contribution. Maireann an chraobh ar an bhfál ach ní mhaireann an lámh a chuir | The branch in the hedge lives on, though the hand that planted it may be gone. Beyond the GAA Paul made a hugely positive impact on Tyrone through his work in financial services. Our deepest sympathy goes to Anne, Noellene, Anita, John, and Catherine, to Paul’s wider family circle, to his many friends and colleagues, to the Gaels of Mayo, Leitrim, Drumragh and Dungannon, and to the many, many people whose life journey he improved. I measc Naomh na hÉireann agus Laochra na nGael go raibh a anam dílis | May his noble soul be among the Saints of Ireland and the Heroes of the Gael.
