#LondonBusWatch "Institutionally Unsafe" is the one podcast @TfL @MayorofLondon don't want you to hear. ybc.tv/podcast/comadad-part-…

What a truly awful experience. The Pedicabs (London) Act 2024 gives the London Mayor powers to regulate both the drivers and vehicles, it became law on 25th April 2024.
Despite asking for these powers for years, 2 years on the Mayor still hasn't enforced them.
Yet another London failure.
I am a member of a group who advises people about what to do and where to go in London.
A young American woman in the group had an appalling experience at the weekend. She went to the theatre to see a musical.
Her friends wanted to go out afterwards but she preferred to go back to the hotel.
She could not get a black cab and did not want to risk a minicab. So she took a rickshaw. You know the type: lit up like Blackpool illuminations and blaring out music.
She thought they were licensed. They are not: the mayor has been talking about that for years but it won’t be in place until 2027.
Anyway, just her and one “not English” guy cycling.
As they came closer to the hotel she said they ended up in a really quiet alley. He stopped and suggested taking her photo using her phone. She refused. She did not want to hand over her phone and did not feel safe. They had quite an argument about it. She said she would just pay and walk the rest of the way.
Then two other men appeared. Now she really was scared and offered the £30 agreed fare cash. The driver (and the two men) insisted that she pay by credit card.
They started to say that she had to pay double if she paid in cash.
At that point, a couple turned the corner and instantly the two men vanished, the driver took the £30 and she was left alone.
If that couple had not turned up I don’t know what would have happened.
She had a photo from inside the rickshaw and is submitting it to the police today but it is not easy to identify the driver.
This is not the first time I have heard of such a scam. One tourist was told the fare came to £200 because it was “a tour” and not a ride to the restaurant. Despite it being no such thing.
London scammers in plain sight.

Another London bus collides with a building.
"A single-decker route W19 bus smashed into a tech repair shop earlier this morning...At about 7.30am the single-decker collided with a car on Markhouse Road before smashing into the laptop repair business."

@MayorofLondon "Do you agree w/ me that @TfL tendering and awarding Bus Routes to Bus Operators fully aware of the fact that there is no Bus Driver's Toilet at either terminus can be characterised as the action of a negligent contractor?" HT>KeithPrinceAM london.gov.uk/who-we-are/wha…
It's vital that every bus driver in London has the facilities they need to carry out their vital work safely and comfortably
That's why @TfL & @MayorofLondon are funding 53 more new toilet buildings for bus drivers across London over the next 3 years

Hey @UnitetheUnion! What do you think of this Question from @KeithPrinceAM to @MayorofLondon? @LondonBusForums london.gov.uk/who-we-are/wha…
🚌 Bus drivers can have to go hours without access to a toilet; forced to hold it in or use bottles or hedges. Unite bus workers have been campaigning for years for access to clean lockable toilets and hand washing facilities. This is another huge win for the capital's bus drivers.
Authorities and operators across the UK and Ireland must now follow suit

@MayorofLondon : "Will you commit to ensuring the new Bus Services Contract between @TfL and Buses for London will incorporate the Bus Drivers Bill of Rights?" HT>@KeithPrinceAM @LondonBusForums london.gov.uk/who-we-are/wha…
A brand new bus company.
Owned by London. Run by London.
For years, Londoners have told me they want to see more bus routes under public ownership. Today, we begin our mission to deliver just that.

Compare that—IMHO negligent response from Mayor to what @TfL MD for Surface Transport agreed w me on 15 May 2018. BTW @KeithPrinceAM asked Mayor about this agreement this month. @Luke_Donnelly99 @Kumail_Jaffer london.gov.uk/who-we-are/wha…

👀 @SadiqKhan responds: "a ‘one size fits all’ solution is entirely inappropriate, and that buses should be regulated for what they are (buses), and not as though they are trains."

👀 Mayor's A to your reasonable Q: “Will you publicly commit to ensuring that the management of fatigue risk for bus drivers will be at least as robust as what has already existed for rail for decades and for trams, only more recently?" @LondonBusForums london.gov.uk/who-we-are/wha…

BTW re @SadiqKhan acting like he just found about dangerously Hot Bus Cabs b/c 'this summer was hot' cf. @TfL Commissioner Andy Lord's exchange at @LondonAssembly 3 July 2025. "small number of cabs w A/C problems" IMOH Lying = @MayorofLondon & Lord's MO! youtube.com/watch?v=_hMV9TmN…

Sadiq Khan seemed quite excited to tell us that his planned new state-owned bus company will specify only British buses. Something that would be illegal if we were in the EU: is he turning into a Brexiteer?

IMHO, @TfL sustains its “Institutionally Unsafe” Bus Operation through a Culture of Lies & and Culture of Fear that’s thrived for decades. So relieved @myldn @Luke_Donnelly99 @Kumail_Jaffer & @itvlondon shining light on this Negligent Industrial Operation! mylondon.news/news/transport…

You know Tom, it's almost like I *already knew* back in June what the truth was, and worded my question to expose the Mayor's duplicitous nature!
As you know perfectly well, loads of buses don't have AC but back in June the Mayor decided to pretend they did hoping to fob me off.

Begs this Q, really: as far as @TfL abject failure to monitor Unsafe Bus Driver Working Conditions are concerned what else is @MayorofLondon "lying" about? I'm chuffed to see @myldn "Back our Bus Drivers" Campaign appears unstoppable! 💪 #KeepDigging mylondon.news/news/transport…

In his response to Question 2026/1910 @MayorofLondon was VERY specific—
e) Drivers air conditioning was specified from 2006.
f) All London buses have air conditioning in the driver’s cab.
—so IMHO @NeilGarratt's claim @SadiqKhan was "lying" stands
