The longest run on sentence in history! Someone has not learned how to use sentence structure or paragraphs. The writing on this made me LOL!
So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

Polling firm, whose results were publicized by the NY Times, MS Now and other national media admits their polls were just made up nonsense. They were crowdfunded and deceived donors too. But incredibly, none of their media clients and their "layer and layers of fact checkers" bothered to check this outfit.

Most people who call themselves "software engineer" do not have a degree in computer science or software engineering. Titles are mostly what ever you choose to self identify - and refer to "what you do" rather than formal education.

Back in the 90s, newspaper cartoon strips were getting tinier and worse. Scott Adams changed comedy forever. His work resonated with every tech employee. He was so barbed that management tried to ban his comics. I once posted a Scott Adams comic on my office door about how Dilbert's boss made him take down a comic that made fun of that boss. My own clueless boss asked me to remove my comic - he used almost exactly the same words used in the comic. His legacy will live on. Below is a particular favorite.

Bought a used 2015 Macbook Air, Intel i7 CPU, for $130 incl shipping. Just set it up with Linux Mint and it is an amazingly nice setup for such a low price.

Sorry, Yglesias is right here. The US flight hours requirement for commercial airline pilots is *famously* overloaded In 2013, it went from 250 hours (to obtain a commercial certificate) to 1500 hours in response to a crash where both pilots had over 1500 hours of flight time This has created a bottleneck for pilots where they have to run hundreds of hours in low-paying flight roles (instructors, running skydiving flights) trying to run up those hours.
Matt Yglesias wants you to die in a plane crash, apparently. nytimes.com/2026/10/16/opini…
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Yglesias argues US 1500-hr pilot rule (vs Europe ~200) is job protection raising fares, not safety. Europe has comparable safety per IATA. He says he wants no crashes, just to end a pretextual rule. Colgan pilots exceeded 1500 hrs. iata.org/en/pressroom/2… x.com/mattyglesias/s…

Hard rule: those who makes posts bashing Gen Z, Millennials, X or Baby Boom are likely to be muted and blocked. Almost all the posts start with false premises or historically inaccurate assertions and go downhill from there. Every time.

Posted by Silver Moon Brewing in Bend Oregon… β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ They are located at 24 NW Greenwood Ave. Hi, my name is Steve Augustyn, and I am one of the owners of Silver Moon. I have three young boys who have all attended Silver Rail, and our youngest is in 4th grade at Silver Rail now. The school and the community have been a part of our lives for many years. Some of you know me, and some of you may not. If you do know me, you know how much I love and care about this community and the well-being of people from all walks of life. I have always done my best to make sure Silver Moon is a place where everyone feels welcome. Pubs were created to be gathering places for communities, and that is exactly what I hope we can be. A place where people can come together, support one another, and talk about what they’re feeling, whether it’s good, bad, sad, angry, happy, or anything in between. This Wednesday, October 21st, I would like to invite you all to the pub to do just that. 100% of all sales and donations, not just the profit, but every dollar spent, will be donated to the families ( or a charity of their choosing) who have experienced loss from this tragedy. I am doing this intentionally so there is no confusion about my motives. This is not about notoriety, publicity, or financial gain. I’m doing this for myself, for Silver Rail, and for a community that desperately needs a place to come together and support one another. With love, Steve & Marissa Augustyn P.S. I apologize for any grammatical errors. I did not use AI to write this message ❀️ (Original post in comments)

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds flew their last-ever demonstration today in the legendary CT-114 Tutor, holding a private friends and family show at their home base in Moose Jaw. You’re not crying, we’re all crying.

I live not far from this ... we are all crying every day.
OREGON: We met the man who stopped the Silver Rail Elementary shooter in Bend. He is a dad of two students at the school. His family tells me he was driving home on his break for lunch when his vehicle was shot. They say he’s struggling with what happened and traumatized by the fact he couldn’t save more people. He’s grateful for those he did save, but wishes he could have done more.

The "maximum" Social Security benefit shown here is misleading. As of 2026: Only 1-2% receive more than $50k/year. Only 6% receive more than $40k/year The average payment is about $24k per year. The payout is proportional to how much they contributed earlier in their work life. The chart then doubles the amount by referring to "couples".

Seniors also have the most wealth, least debt, least trouble paying bills, and highest financial satisfaction. That comfort is good news! But why are we cutting everyone else's spending and reserving all tax hikes to pay the wealthiest ones nearly $100,000/yr in benefits?

These commercial Internet connected freezers were remotely commanded to go to 50 deg C "defrost mode". Food at hundreds of stores destroyed. Why are these Internet connected? If needed, had anyone heard of secured connections?
‼️ BREAKING: Fires broke out after hackers hacked fridges of hundreds of French supermarkets and forced Danfoss controllers to defrost at up to 50Β°C. IntermarchΓ© counts up to 200 stores, CoopΓ©rative U fewer than 100. Paris prosecutors opened a probe.
