Meet Mistral Large 4, aka Le Chonk.
• 1T parameters, natively multimodal. 49B active.
It is the best open weights model from US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks.
• State-of-the-art on critical workloads, including cyber defense, manufacturing and finance and it surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding.
• Forged in Europe end-to-end and is deployable from Europe via our own Mistral Cloud infrastructure.
• Available to all via API today. Working with cybersecurity partners privately.
Open weights release end of October.

Cubarsi and Laporte at this World Cup, absolutely imperious.
Not the fastest, not the strongest, but just about the two most composed, high IQ defenders you’ll see, and they’re bossing every second of it.
I’d take Laporte at Barça in a heartbeat.
Introducing Pool
That little icon got us $2M in funding, 15M organic views, and now you can all finally discover what's behind it.
Pool is "just an app for your screenshots." But it holds a few bets we decided to build a whole company on.
We believe the context of the future is your camera roll. Understanding someone's taste, the texture of their life, can unlock things we can't even comprehend yet.
We believe the future of interfaces will feel the way games make us feel, computing as a beautiful mix of art and technology.
Now live on the App Store.

get your kids off of the devices
This MRI study on young kids just exposed something terrifying:
They scanned the brains of 60 children aged 3–5 — including 5-year-old Rose — and found interactive screen time is causing measurable loss of white matter in their developing brains. Even just 2 hours a day is linked to impaired neural connectivity, language, and literacy development.
Professor Mike Nagel (neuroscientist and father) said his first reaction was simply: “Wow… I was not anticipating seeing anything like that.”
We’re physically changing children’s brains before they even start school — and the damage is visible on scans.
This one actually unsettled me. I’ve always suspected too much screen time was bad, but seeing real white matter loss in toddlers hits different.
Parents of little ones — has this kind of research changed how much screen time you allow?

Another reason not to front-load a bunch of AI-generated general instructions.
> Developer-written context: +4% avg improvement on AGENTBENCH, marginal
> LLM-generated context: -3% average, net negative
Recent papers show that the declarative context the model can discover itself is redundant and costly.
Debating whether AGENTS[.]md files help or hurt seems like the wrong question. A flat, monolithic context file is always going to be redundant or distracting.
I think the right architecture is a protocol layer that routes to focused, persona/focus-specific context. The main file should describe how agents should think about your repo.
Layer 1: Protocol file (CLAUDE[.]md / AGENTS[.]md)
Not a repository overview. Not a style guide dump.
A routing document that declares:
Available personas/agents and when to use each
- Available skills and what task classes they cover
- Available MCPs and what they connect to
- Minimal essential repo info (only what the model cannot discover)
- The dependency graph between these components
Layer 2: Focused persona/skill files
Each persona (UX designer, information architect, SWE) gets its own scoped context with domain-specific procedural knowledge. The model loads only the relevant one based on the current task, not all of them at once.
Layer 3: Maintenance agent (exploratory)
A subagent whose role is keeping the protocol file updated as the codebase evolves, so it doesn't go stale.
The right comparison would be a hierarchical system that loads the right context for the right task versus dumping everything upfront.
